I really do not have much of a problem with the points, it was nice at the begining when you could maybe participate or try out new things for nurses if you were at the top but it did not work out that way, I have read a few who are vocal and complain about the points, people in general are ALL competitive if you say you are not your lying, it is human nature to want to be the best and win,  people will kill themselves to win a silly sticker worth 1 cent at a school competition, if you have a heart rate you are competitive, some are just MORE competitive than others, I think a few got upset when the rules changed and they were demoted, oh well, it is NOT really a big deal, I love to meet new people and talk to nurses everywhere around the world I have made some great new friends, I spend hours answering every email I get some times over a hundred at a time, but I respond to them all. It does not bother me to get points or not to get points for meeting new friends that is why I am here, I also love writing and reading articles so I do that as well, the game is also fun to answer the questions and yes the competitivness comes out in us all. I think a few being upset is not reason to try and change anything, we ALL know now that a prize DOES NOT exist at the top, so what! we know that now, it is always fun to compete (Olympics) is one example. I think too much is being made of this issue and now MORE is being made, people will always jump on the band wagon when controversy exists. People are attracted to drama. I am not. I do not wish to join the group for the reasons I have stated, I enjoy reading everyones posts I  just not not choose to waste ANY time on something so silly. Again this is just MY opinion, I will support this group as a whole on anything the majority wants to do, I just choose to focus MY efforts on meeting the new nurses of our future and maybe helping them with tough choices they face today if some of MY experience can help just one, then I have accomplished a lot more than fussing about points or no points. Hugs Patty

I  agree with Patty, the points really do not matter, it is all about being freinds and being able to ask the hard questions to someone with the experience and honesty you would not get somewhere esle, lets talk about something with a little more meat in its diet. But thats just my opion.

I agree bickering isn't what this site is about...although we all have different opinons, we need to know how to handle them correctly.

the points are no longer fun. And, that is the point. Yes more than one person, myself included became very upset when the point system changed. More than one person left b/c of it. and, it is not "silly" to be upset over it. Get rid of the points.

I very much respect you Ginny and would NOT ever ignore your feelings I think I said that, my point is it is silly to be SO upset and have it be your focus, we need to move on, what diff does it REALLY make in the skeem ( I know THAT is spelled wrong) of the world? That is all I am saying.

Part of this is not the points, but we've had to open other topics to get nursinglink to finally do something and acknowledge many of our requests.  I hope you noticed, until lunarcaustic started the other topic, nothing had been acknowledged about anything for months

You are right, there seem to be many glitches in this system , BUT it IS a free site and they get paid only through advertisements they post here so we are NOT paying for the service, we do not really have the right to complain, if someone is not happy with ALL the problems there are other sites, but they ALL have there own problems just different ones.

I never really paid attention to how many points I had; the extra kudos are nice, but not something I am into.  Instead, I get really excited to be invited to groups and to make contact with other nurses.

Here is an idea: do not let the friends tab be available to anyone but the person that it belongs to. watch the point scores ssssssllllllooooowwww down then.

dear iluvnursing, posting and inviting friends doesnt mean that you're just after the points. if we are going to label that to every  person who makes an invite or post, then we should stop doing so, thinking that there is a motive behind those things, right? just asking...

I agree points or no points. I am just on here to meat new friends that are in the nursing field. I am just starting out my career and some of you have been in the field for along time and now what it is all about.

I'm only a nursing student and have been on this site for about a year now. I've loved chatting with other nurses as well as students like myself.  I have made some very nice friends who are interested in how my schooling is going. This is important and often is a "buster" for me and my studies.

I just want to say that whatever the site leaders want to do with the points is fine with me. I didn't come here to collect points and be number one on the leaderboard.  I came here to make friends and gain support as I continue through school.

I guess that is why you are posting news items by the dozens and not waiting for anyone to respond? It's not for the points? And that is why you are busting your butt to collect so many friends in a short time.

Hundreds of emails every night? right.

I have been on this link for over a year and I have more than 100 of my current and past students and I do not get more than a hundred emails in a day. Maybe in a week I get 100.

Ok, my personal opinion here is this: If you care about the points then by all means do whatever it is you think you have to do to collect them. If you DON'T care about the points (like me) then just enjoy your friends and the site for what it is and say "oh, that's nice" if and when you get another star or something. Above all STOP the madness with all of the arguing over points this points that! I can honestly say I never look at my points. When I go to gove someone a gift I'm always shocked to see the points I have, mostly because I forgot about them. Oh, and while I'm at it...what's the deal with all of the complaining about topics? If you don't like or don't want to read a particular topic then skip it! Why waste time and energy complaining about it (unless it's something that could hurt others, that's a whole different story)?

So those are the points you all are talking about.  I've always thought it confusing why I couldn't explain nor  comment on a game trivia Q&A  why I  thought  the best answer was not a yes or no, but somewhere in between.  Why not EMPOWER the nurses and give the option of showing the comments/questions and answers.   Some nurses may not think we need empowerment, but I believe that, that is exactly what we lack in Nursing.  Nursing has become so political that we need cohesiveness and strength as a whole; and what better way to achieve this than to become empowered.  In this time and age,  nurses still eat their young!! I saw this when I started nursing over 20 years ago and I still see it now.  Attempting not to go on a segue here, but I think it's even worse now because the new grads have learned to be more assertive if not aggressive.  Thus big time conflict ensues between the more experienced nurses and the less experienced nurses. As far as being fed up with the point system---I'm too new to fully evaluate it and I've offered some suggestions above.

I joined this site to get new insights in nursing, look into different avenuesnetwork with other nurses and continue to learn , i.e. use this site as a  learning tool. Think of all the nurses with all the different areas of expertise and years of experience. If somebody could make a GRID COMPILATION OF YEARS OF EXPERIENCE TO #'S OF NURSES AND YEARS OF EXPERTISE.... you've got yourself a book of  "how to pass the  CCRN exam".

Who knows, I may just start a group forum in regards to a study group for CCRN takers as far as nurses lending each other support in their own specialized field by volunteering in groups. Hhhmmm, I wonder if that is allowed???
