Birth Control Pills and Blood Clots

Just wondering if any nurses agree with me that young girls/women should be tested before going on birth control pills?  For some who don't know me well, last summer I was in the hospital for 20 days with a DVT and a PE. The clot was sitting on the femoral artery.  The clot was 2 feet long. I'm glad I didn't die or loose my leg. KUDOS to everyone at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

I had just started birth control and was starting my "second" pack when I was taken ill while I was on vacation in North Carolina.  Talking to many doctors and nurses there I felt like something should be done before placing women on the pill.  This could save lives! I know there is a test that I will be taking shortly, now that I am off the Coumadin, that will show if your blood is likely to produce and form clots.

Has anyone heard of this and what do you think?

I am taking Yaz, or was, I'm taking the generic of Yaz now. Glad it finally came out in Generic. It's so much cheaper. I have been taking it for years, and never had any kind of problem. But I have always heard that taking BC increase you risk of blood clots. I really don't what they do to screen you to see if you are more of a risk of developing blood clots. It would be interesting to find out.

Sap, your in school, why don't you ask one of your instructors. Of course they might turn it into a project for you. LOL
