Posted over 4 years ago Please, I'm a liberal and Obama supporter, but I'd like to hear some arguments for why people like Sarah Palin. Don't post unless you have a cited fact to base your opinion on though. Thanks! |

Don't you think that's a trifle unrealistic, not to mention unfair? Nobody is asking you to justify your support of Barack Obama with documentable citations and facts. If a person likes and supports a candidate, then they like and support that candidate. What needs to be factual, citable, and have verifiable provenance are bold assertions like "Barack Obama was raised as a Muslim," or "John McCain doesn't support green, sustainable energy." Neither are true, both are demonstrably false, and both have been bashed about as "fact." Those type of statements need the support of "cited facts." But if I like Obama, that's my opinion - no citation necessary. And if I support McCain, that is my opinion, too - and I don't need footnotes. And if I think they both stink like three day dead fish - I get to say that, too. So if I say I respect Sarah Palin because she at least appears to have the integrity to live her belief system - i.e., she is pro-life, she is accepting the moral responsibility for the choices her daughter has made and integrating the consequences into her family, et cetera - then no citation is necessary. But if I say she was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it - well, then it helps to have some facts with which to point. See the difference?

That was neither fair, nor called for. Can we stop making these discussions personal? Ted "The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities." - Ayn Rand |

| Posted over 4 years ago I have been a democrat for years. I will not vote for Obama. Why do I like Sarah Palin? For many reasons, I do not like wishy washy people, never have never will. She says what she thinks, she is well rounded, she chose not to abort her baby. Actually, I could think of more reasons than I have time to write. Like most women, she can work and take care of a family. She went against republicans and democrats on issues. My reference is from watching many news conferences.

| Posted over 4 years ago McCain and Palin have my vote because they stand up for doing the right thing...just because it's right. I think its funny that Obama supporters have to justify why they want to vote for their man; and require sources for our hopes for this country.. Alot of people vote based on the character of the candidate when issues get so heated and complex. The economy stinks, everybody on the planet knows this, maybe somebody just needs to do the right thing.

| Posted over 4 years ago Well since I have a gay brother, it's another reason why I refuse to vote for McCain and Palin. He has a long time partner and wish to be able to have the same rights as everyone else. He knew when he was 5 he was different. He didn't choose to be gay, he was born gay. Every single one of my gay and lesbian friends all say the same thing. This was not a choice, it's who they are. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Why do I like Sarah Palin? Even when she was Governor of Alaska, I liked her. She has stood on the side of integrity and even though it would have been easier for the whole family if her daughter, Bristol, had hidden her pregnancy, gone away or aborted her pregnancy, the whold family has stuck together through what has to have been a hard time for everyone. So, her interity is one reason I like her. I also like her for her decision-making ability. She's quick on her feet and level-headed. Like every pol, I'm sure there is a decision/vote she's made that she wishes she could ''do-over' When it comes to being asked if she feels qualified to be the leader of the free world, she is honest and unassuming in her answer that if she AND her family had any doubt about her ability to leae or their desire to be in the spoltight, she wouldn't have accepted John McCain's offer. I was impressed with her poise on the Katie Couric interview when Katie asked her what magazines she read. She could have blown up in Katie's face; rather she chose not to answer the question that she felt strongly Katie should have known better to have asked. I'm just going to paraphrase, but she was interviewed later and said that she was so taken aback; 'it was almost like you have no magazines 'up there''. Her response was that she read the same as we did, like Time, Newsweek, Business Week, Money. I like her because she can present herself as incredibly intelligent and humorous at the same time. She's exciting. I like that she chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Comission and stood up to croneyism in Alaska. I also believe that her view on teaching BOTH creationism and evoltution in schools is the right call. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I think that people relate to Sarah Palin because she seems to be an "ordinary person". She has a baby with Down's syndrome and a teenage daughter who is pregnant. She has issues just like the rest of us and that is why I like her. One of the Fox commentators said something like if John McCain would be hit by a meteor and killed would you really want an "ordinary person" running the country. Well I guess I would love an "ordinary person" to run the country instead of a politician. |

Amy, I agree. Here's a normal woman with normal family issues (no, the Cleavers weren't real) and there's no reason she shouldn't have a place on the ticket. She's earned it and paid her dues. I can't think of ANY reason not to elect her and I can think of EVERY reason to elect her. Also, if you're playing from the negaitive side, considering the alternative of Joe Biden. However, I'm so much in Sarah Palin's corner. She's the kind of fresh face in American politics we need to see more often and get rid of those people who've been in Washington since before 'God' UNLESS they are doing a service to this country! |
