Posted over 4 years ago I am peeved! I do not think that LPN's meant the were supperior to RNs. Please! I have learned a long time ago that you cannot teach some people anything. Nurses or otherwise because they know it all already. They are supperior to you! They know it so why beat your head against a brick wall. The point is that kindness goes a long way. Example: The other night I arrived for work on time and a new grad RN was there. The RN for my shift on my floor had called and said she was going to be late. I work in LTC. There was another RN in the building for 11-7 shift. I thought I would be kind when I asked if she would like to give me report so that she could go home. I had done so many times before and my RN did not have a problem with it. Well...the new grad said snidely, "No, I'll wait for the Real Nurse!" I thought, "What am I the fake nurse?" but I said sweetly "OK!" However, I was not to much of a fake nurse that I could not count a narcotic drawer packed full of Scheduled drugs. Go figure! Well, when almost an hour had gone by the new grad "Real Nurse" decided she would go ahead and give me (the fake nurse) report. OH NO! Not that night she wouldn't. I would continue to do my "fake nurse" stuff such as passing medications, treatments, charting, etc..... She then had the audacity to try to tell me what I "had to do" Well, I knew all they could do was fire me so she ended up working a double shift because I knew that there was no way in hell she was going to get the DON on the phone after midnight. I'm so glad I was a "fake nurse". I didn't work a double shift. I didn't get fired either, she quit! Poor thing! A little fake nurse chased her off because she was rude! BTW: Why is OK for RN's to "vent" about things all over this site but when LPNs have a group to vent on, they are attacked. We are not asking to be equal to you, just for the same thing you want, kindness and respect!

| Posted over 4 years ago No worries kitty...........that new RN will discover a real world out there. In nursing school the classmates who were LPN's ran circles around the folk like me <I was not a previous healthcare worker>. I worked my butt off and had it saved more than once by an LPN and still do. Its a team effort out there. Ever find out what became of the RN chick? hehe We only have one heart, take care of it! | Posted over 4 years ago I cannot believe that she actually said the words "real nurse". We used to joke that RN stood for real nurse and LPN stood for low paying nurse but that was because we weren't recognized by ANA as a professional. I have a lot of friends both RN and LPN, some are better nurses than others but it has nothing to do with their initials. I am glad however that there are programs out there that allow LPNs to test out some of the courses to get placed higher in nursing school to become an RN. I want to do this but I have to go back to take chemistry which appears to be thorn in my side. I didn't have to have it to graduate, I didn't need it for my LPN, my paralegal or my job as a nurse consultant. I do however need it in order to be accepted into an RN program. Wish me luck - I will definitely need it.!!
