| Posted over 4 years ago Well, I know for me nursing has been a great profession. I have done many things, as I get bored very easy and need to be challenged. I love patient care I just hate all the i's and t's we have to dot and cross. I currently work on step down, but the most exciting postion I had was in the ER at a Level one trauma center. What do you all do? How long have you been nurses. Do you still enjoy it? I love it somedays but do feel burned out at times. I have been a nurse for 20 years and really don't have any desire today to further my education. I may change my mind, so anyone out there who wants to encourage me and tell me why then please do. I did want to be a NP but at 47 I just feel to old to go back to school. I enjoy my free time, but I have to admit I think about it a lot. I WENT TO SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND CAPITAL UNIVERSITY IN THE LATE 1980'S AND EARLY 1990'S. LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU FELLOW NURSING STUDENTS. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I hate school. I hate studying things that are not associated with nursing. I just had my final in a crappy core class that I paid a fortune to take, made an 'A', World Religions..............WHY is this required for a BSN? Well, honestly I had a choice between this and something more boring than that. I have no idea how I scored that 'A' except, I can memorize needed info for a certain period of time........then when its safe, it can be deleted. If I need the info to function as a nurse, it wont be deleted in my brain. I have discovered my brain is like my dvr.....how scary is that? Do any other nurses lose info they dont use on a daily basis...........this is twighlight zone. I'd kill somebody in L&D.....but I passed the class just fine in school eons ago. I havent seen a kid being born since school unless accidently seeing something on cable while channel surfing. I cant imagine doing anything other than nursing. Its so rewarding and I love hands on patient care. I get encouragement up the wazoo to go on beyond the BSN..............I hope to do so! This is a great profession. I know some are not cut out for it..........and I'm not cut out for the busness world. Everybody is different! We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

I am like you, I hate studying anything other than nursing. I have no desire to be in management and really have no desire to go back to school. I am afraid I may regret it though, later. I have a very fullfilling life, great husband and grown children and a beautiful grandson. Yes I lose things that I do not use, most definetly.. Like spelling, LOL. I use spell check all the time, that I forget how to spell anything anymore. I was in school for my BSN and never knew why the classes were required either, I assume to make us more well rounded. I hated it. I hated writting research papers, even though I was good at it, it just did not excite me. I hade to take time off to care for my ill father and now I have no desire to return. I just love my free time and I am very active in many other causes, so I do not think I will go back. Not to mention that I moved to another state and the school here wants me to repeat everything so they can get my money. So do you work? What type of nursing do you do? I work on a step down unit and love it. I want to go on a medical mission soon. Have you guys ever done that or know anyone who has? I WENT TO SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND CAPITAL UNIVERSITY IN THE LATE 1980'S AND EARLY 1990'S. LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU FELLOW NURSING STUDENTS. |

| Posted over 4 years ago During the week, my full time job is cardiac rehab for post cabg, mvr, stents, stuff like that.............its a cushy job, and alot of fun. I cant believe I get paid to do that! My moonlighting gig is working prn at a decent sized hospital on the floor...............recently was part time with that onee and downed my hours because of family and school............. I do step down too.........plus float in ccu, icu, and med surg. Honestly, general med surg is my favorite next to cardiac. Sometimes its just a break to get around gooey folk. I guess the core classes that I have to take are what the powers that be require all to suffer and I accept it.........I dont have to like it though We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |
