A Florida woman risked life and limb in an attempted rescue following a helicopter crash. Has anyone had a similar life saving experience?

What a sad story and yet inspiring. I can't say I have attempted to save a person's life. But I have called for the appropriate help when needed.

I nevered risked life and limb, but I have attempted to save a person life doing the Heminich manuver. I was working again!!!!! at the convalescent home, when one of the CNA's which was going to school as LVN, came into the dining room kitchen and said help. I said whats the matter grace, she said my patient is turning blue. So all the CNA's rushed in her patient's room, the patient was cynotic and chocking. I rushed over to the patient and start to do the abdominal thrusts upwards until all the food came gushing out of his mouth. Suddenly, his color changed from blue to his natural color. Come to find out that the patient was suppose to have a puree soft diet, not a mechanical soft diet. The patient had swallowing difficuties, and needed to be on swallowing precautions, I know how that nurse felt, it just that your normal nursing instincts really really kick in when your help is really needed.

Before I finally was able to return to school for nursing I was working in a factory when I had my experience, I was about 8 mo pregnant at the time, I was checking in a truck of parts when I hear one of the women on the line scream for me as i turn around I see her catching the woman beside her as she slumps to the ground. I start running because i can see her face turning an ashen grey color I leap over a push cart with parts on it because it was the quickest way when i get over to her i check her pulse which is barely there and thank God i remembered my CPR training and was able to do it without hesitation. "Tracy" had had a major heart attack and when I went to see her at the hospital she told me all she could remember was my big belly coming towards her.

This has nothing to do with my nursing experience but once I pushed my friend out of the way of an oncoming bus. I like to think I saved at least a limb...

One day i was on my way to work, it was dark and raining hard, . I was at a red light when suddenly, a boy about 16 ran across the street. he was wearing all black and visibility was poor....he got hit. I watched as his body flew up,landed on the back of the van. then the road. My friend and I quickly pulled up a few feet from him to keep traffic out of that lane. I was hoping he was alive.....but from what I saw....when we assesed him, i first checked for a pulse, my coworker was on the phone c E.M.S.. ABC... all there. good right? yes, but there was nothing i could do for his agony when he was going in and out of conciousness, When he was screaming like a very wounded animal and i could do nothing but use my shears and a blanket and yell vital signs to my friend to tell the operator....he was just a baby.....I could do nothing but immobilize him when he tried to flail, lean in close and with the steadiest voice i could muster say over and over : don't move, just breath. I don't know how many times I said it, but I know I took his vitals about five times and called EMT everything but a child of god. a week later I had heard he lived. Miracle...the kid was broken the last I saw him. then a few months later, the girl at the gas station near where it happend- im a regular there; told me that the kid had come in with his grandmother and he asked if she knew who was with him that morning and to tell them "just breath"......Priceless.

As an ex-flight nurse myself, I have been in multiple situations of saving lives in house fires, auto crashes, shootings, etc. This Spring, I found myself resuscitating my husband after he rescued a girl caught in a rip tide in Cocoa Beach. Unfortunately, after he and another guy got her out of harm's way, they got in the rip tide. A jet ski pulled him in, and I never thought that I would do CPR on my own husband.........
