Hand washing, use warm water not hot.  Hot water makes your hands dry and crack.  Infection entry point.  I was also told that using the hand sanitizer should never replace hand washing between patients.  Because it has to stay wet on your hands for at least 10 seconds for it to actually work and because it also dries your hands out.  I would strongly suggest going to your Dr. and getting a flu shot.  Also keep your hands away from your face.

I totally agree with you.  I don't think Hand sanitizers should replace handwashing.  I had to take my fiance to the ER one day (of course we were there all day) and never saw the nurses or doctors wash their hands.  They only used hand sanitizers hanging outside every room.  All I can say is I am glad that I am not training at that hospital.  One nurse opened a urine sample bag (without gloves) and reached her hand in to make sure the lid was tight.  Talk about disease, gross!

Cough, snort, sneeze .....guess who's sick!   No matter what you do, you never know when a 6 y.o.'s gonna blast a sneeze into your face.    I just love being a school nurse.

Step 1 - wash hands.  Step 2 - avoid sick people. Check out www.germtrax.com - they show real-time symptom and sickness reports from all over the world.  Very interesting!
