I found this on the internet today:

You know you are nursing student if.....
1. You open the refrigerator door and notice that the already opened milk jug has been dated and timed and has your initials on it.

2. You keep the sterile field even when you cook dinner.

3. You have used restraints...and it was not a sexual experience.

4. Your family has filed missing person reports on you during finals week.

5. You shake a person's hand and you find yourself feeling for a vein to decide which size IV catheter you would use.

6. You discuss the consistency of your patients' poop on your lunch break..and thats not weird to you.

7. Your normal friends all graduated in business or mass comm.

8. You've canceled your gym membership once you realized your Pediatrics book can double as a 10 lb weight.

9. You are determined to figure out how to administer cafeine through an IV line before finals week.

10. You know that the correct answer is not on the test and you will argue to the death for those 2 points.

Very funny--and perceptive! We've all been there. And I have to say, I once actually did argue enough to get 2 points on a test! I'm so proud of that!

Its really great to listen to nurses talking again. Don't ever take it for granted cause if its taken away like it was from me, you will miss it as much as I do. Hello my name is Chris and I was a pediatric nurse for eight years. When I was diagnosis in 2004 with MS, my career ended suddenly. I had so much family through nursing, I did a lot of peds homecare and if you have experienced that you know how much of an extended family you can acquire. I'm in a wheelchair but really want to get back to some kind of life as a nurse. My license expired in 2004 and I have attempted to contact the nursing board for procedure instructions on how to get my license back but never hear back . Well I lost my mother in January, I have the empties hole in my heart. Anyone know where to start let me know.

Very funny and oh so true. My nursing course has been delayed because of the type A infuenza virus but I'm not giving up hope. I've had this rotten flu for 4 months now and have blood in my urine. What next? The only thing I can put it down to is bad luck!

This is to seahawk88. My name is Demetrice. If you can't work as a nurse, you can still give advice as a nurse. I am a nursing student pursing a ADN in nursing. I still give advice, with my experience as a Hospital Technician, and with the knowledge, I have acquired from school. I still give other potential nursing students advice about the nursing field. You have alot to share, your life is and example.

I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health.

My Husband says he feels like a single man sometimes! Our mantra is 7 more months! I haven't told him I want to continue and go for my Nurse Practitioners licence! I bet he'd like the restraint "practice"! HAHAHA!

You mean its not normal everyday conversation to talk about poop or anything else that contains to urine, blood or guts? I have a tendency to forget that and just start talking, OOPS!!!
I most definitely feel like a nursing student when I watch people walk and look at their gait and posture. Or going down the road reading license plates and making up medical words ...

That is really funny but should that mean nurses have good sense of humour?

Demetrice, Thanks for the encouragement, I do have a lot of knowledge and experience to share and pass on. I hope in the near future to find where I belong and how to achieve my new goals. Thanks you friend Chris

Nurses HAVE to HAVE a good sense of humor. Remember that a smile is the shortest distance between 2 people.

wow, I also argued for those two points. Well in my case, the teacher shorted the test cuz she was behind in lecture and it actually became four points. That stupid question cost me a whole letter grade and we were all livid cuz the teachers kept stressin about: the book this and the book that and the book is the bible. Then on the last day of class, she tells us dont go by the book, you have to critically think. OMG, I'm so stressed!!!!

I like this one. I found myself doing most of this when I was in school for MA. I can still find myself look at peoples arms for veins except for drawing blood ( haven't gotten to IVs yet).

Man o man is that right on the money, I wound up supplying a coffee pot and a microwave for my class. A trick for getting caffine in your system. Blow off the water.

seahawk: There is somewhere in your area (don't know where you live) that will accept you as a volunteer. Ypu can hep people, stay in touch and not loose friemdships. Keep bugging the BON!! They tend to run extremely slow in many areas, I have found. You didn't mention your status (CNA, LPN, RN, or ??) but MS and a wheelchair is no reason to keep you from teaching! CNA instructors can be any level of RN or above and other levels have specific needs. Nurse educators are in short supply, like every other kind of nurse. How about volenteering in a school? When my daughter was in K and 1st grade, New York state had school nurses, campus could not open without a nurse in place,. I volunteered to cover her lunch 1 day/week. What a joy! She never left the campus, but got a break away from the office. So even if your license has expired, you might could look into this venue. Maybe you have thought of these alternatives, maybe not. but we're still 1 big happy family. Once a nurse, always a nurse!!
