Posted over 4 years ago I am a pet first aid and cpr instucture. I really think its a good coarse for all pet owners to take. As you all know anything can and will happen especially those who travel with your pets. I also strongly advise those that do travel with you dog or cat you do keep them restrained in a crate that is secured with a seat belt or a saftey harness that is made to be a restraint. Just like children our pets can become projectiles that can go through a windshield or have debrie fly into there face when they are hanging thier head out a window. A story I was told by a friend who shows German Shepherds a person was going across a bridge coming out of New York. She had some kind of a Cross over vehicle she was rear ended the dogs were lose in the back of the car the rear window broke. The terrified dogs jumped out of the vehicle and started runing down the bridge. She was fortunate there was an of duty K9 cop who opened his car door and the dogs jumped in and she got her show dogs back unharmed. This could have so easily have gone the other way. So remember no heads out the window it's not cute if something flys up off the road and takes out an eye and seat belts please. My dog actually prefers to ride in her crate. For those of your that have dogs that can step on seatbelts and undo them take one of those soda can foam insulator slit the bottom and fit over the seat belt that should stop the problem. |

| Posted over 4 years ago My golden is always seat belted, I have a first aid kit in the car and the house for him and the cats. cats are always crated and the crates are anchored in the back of the car. Windows are only slightly cracked so he can sniff the wind. Never is his head hanging out the window |

| Posted over 4 years ago Hello I am constantly looking for ways to travel safe with my yellow lab - he's very active for his age and we are constantly on the go! It sounds like foam cups could actually be a chocking hazard for those pups who love to chew/bite while traveling. I recently learned through a friend about a pet safety company in virginia called wagn (www.wagn4u.com) They have a lot of information on pet safety, travel, and they offer pet first aid classes. I watched their really cute video on traveling with pets and pet safety (watch it here, on youtube). I think all pet owners need to read up on this, we ALL leave the house with our pets from time to time and its important to be safe!

| Posted almost 4 years ago I use a doggy seatbelt in the car, I have a pet first aid kit, with emergency contacts , an I even put a life jacket on my dog because its necessary when I take him to the river or lake. I have a travel water container I bought at the pet store and it was a great investment , my dog paxtin is like my kid, I used to take him to the memory care facility where I worked at and he Loved it, and the patients loved it .. I havent done that for a while and wish I was still in the position to do it. I should sign him up to visit a nursing home again ..
