I started working L&D in July and my preceptor and I have had two BOA's so far. The frist was a multip on her fourth pregnancy. She said she felt a lot of pressure we turned her over to check her and the baby slide out onto the bed. The second happened a few days ago she was at 35 weeks a prime and was pushing well she started to crown so I called the doctor and my preceptor came in to check and when seh came in I the baby had disappeared again and I thought Oh great I called the doc too soon. Well the next contraction came and she crowned again then pop out came his little head and we were placing him on Mom's tummy when the doctor walked in. I was so glad my preceptor came in or I probably would have freaked and called a code. The funny thing was that 10 minutes prior to the birth the Dad had joked with the wife that we didn't need the doctor that the three of us could do it ourselves. I told him afterward it was his fault because he jinxed us. LOL

WOW!  Although frightening, those experiences must have made you feel proud to play such an intrical role in bringing new life to the world.  I would love to work L&D and hope I can get in after graduation.  Did it take you long to get on the floor you're on now?

I had to chuckle at the "call the code" comment.  I'm so glad someone else fears they might do the same in a panic.  LOL!!!!!
