Hey Everyone

It's been a while since I have posted.  Just wanted to say Hello and tell all of you that things are really beginning to turn around (for the better) for me as far as the career goes.  If you read any of my previous posts you know I was undecided as to my career path.  Well, I did the one thing that I should have done from the beginning - I turned it all over to God and prayed hard about it.  I really feel I am taking the path that He is laying before me and that is to become a nurse.  I applied for a CNA class a couple of months ago and have been accepted and will be starting that next week.  I feel that this is a start to a new beginning.  Although I have had a lot of people tell me that if I did CNA first that it would change my mind completely about being a nurse.  That may be so - but I feel doing CNA first will be great experience and hands on learning that will be a great benefit to me when I apply to Nursing School.  The first college that I attended and was placed on suspension due to dropping too many courses - well I appealed my case with them and I can return in the Spring and start taking classes again through them.  I only have two courses to take that I have to have in order to apply to the Nursing Program I am looking at.  I am really excited about all this and ask each of you to please keep me in your prayers.

Yes CNA will help you decide for sure if you want to be a nurse.  There is a lot of stress being a CNA and also nursing.  I work as a CNA right now.  I am tired a lot but I enjoy it.  I am leaning toward Respiratory Therapy because I love airway.  I like to be the best I can in one area.  Nursing is the whole body.  Respiratory is airway basically.  I also like to intibate.  This seems to be the better choice for me.  Make sure you think about every possibility before deciding.  With the cost of school, you don't want to waste time or money starting something you end up not liking.  I will pray for you, and if you choose nursing....I am sure you will lilke it.  Good Luck

A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

I think that being a CNA is a wonderful way to decide if nursing is a careen that you want to pursue.  I had always thought about being a nurse even since I was a little girl, but, my life took some different turns.  Then one day I saw a flier for a CNA  program at the local technical school, and I thought, hey this is a good way to test the waters, and not invest too much time, money or energy into nursing school.

If possible i would advise you to obtain a job at a local hospital versus a nursing home or other similar type facility, as it will expose you to a wider variety of patients in an acute setting.

I went from being a CNA to an LPN then finally to my ASN (RN) degree.  It was a long route, but it worked for me.

Wishing you much success in whatever path you take.  Patty
