I'm a senior nursing student in an RN-BSN program in my leadership rotation, about to begin ICU in a couple weeks. I've always been a prepared, organized student but when it comes to nursing I just cant seem to get it right. Its like my brain goes to mush around my instructors and other RN's. All I hear (and my peers as well) is that we are seniors now and should be doing better, regarding organizing, assertiveness, and critcal thinking. I guess I'm asking that if you are seriously doubting your abilities as a nurse, is there any advice from experienced nurses who have been there and felt this way? Did you ever think as a student in your last year that you are way behind and should be smarter...or that you'll just never get it right? please help, i need a little, or alot of motivation and advice! thank you :)

Sarah, this is very common. I am sure you are doing much better than you give yourself credit for. You will most likely feel this way even after you start working for at least the first year. I have taken the boards a long time ago so I forgot who wht nursing theroist was. Never used it in practice either but I bet you know about the novice to expert .

Its Patrica Benner that wrote From Novice to Expert. Check it out because you'll find you are right where you are supposed to be. And don't be too hard on yourself!
