Mckenna-some programs do most course work on line and then have clinical experiences on the site of the school. I know it's true of adn-bsn not sure about online only for a non nurse. If you are an LPN, you might have better luck with an online program. University of Phoenix, Walden University and SOuth UNiversity come to mind as they offer nursing on the undergrad levles. I just don;t know exactly what the entrance requirements are and what you need to have to participate. But they are worth checking out! Did my MSN totally online and loved every minute of it. for the doctoral work, no ground classes, online was a definite pre-requsite. Just because 1 program does not fit, does not mean all the others won;t fit. look around and research the available programs. You will fid something to meet your needs. online is the wave of the future.

it is very inspirational to read everyone's posts and know i'm only one of many who are pursuing this at this stage of life. i too am thankful for the opportunity and everything that has brought me to this point. and that is true, when i think i'm 47 and i'll be 50 years old when i finish my ADN, well...i'll still be 50 years old 3 years from now, might as well be 50 AND a nurse! good luck to all who are on the same path and thanks to those who have been here and made it through and share their encouragement.

38 too old to go to nursing school? Heck no! I didn't head to nursing school until 30 and am now 56. I think nurses of every age bring something to the profession. You sound like you've maturity and motivation. Reinventing yourself, or following up on a long set aside dream (don't know if that's it) but I guess it doesn't matter what your motivating factor is; you're MOTIVATED.

I have a friend who graduated at 43 and another at 48; you'll bring years of maturity and life experience with you. Best wishes.

Don't know what your past education has been, but there are 12 month BSN programs for individuals with a previous bachelors. TWELVE MONTHS. You'd be done school by 40. In my mind, if you can see the end of the tunnel BEFORE you enter it, it's worth it. Nursing itself is worth it!

God luck,Annie/teamRN
