Posted over 4 years ago My mom is my biggest inspiration in my life, she is a superwoman single parent who raised two boys and twin girls (my sister and myself) and i've never seen her shed a single tear about having to do it all alone. She is one of the reasons why wanting to become a Nurse is so important to me. Last year my mom suffered a mild stroke and although it didn't affect her so much physically, mentally it took a toll on her. Not being able to hold conversations the way she used to has shattered her self esteem and it just makes me so sad. I want to be able to take care of my mother for the rest of her life the way she took care of me, she is my best friend in the whole world and I don't know what I would do if she wasn't here with me. I know she's proud of me for what i've done so far in my life, but i want her to be even more proud and to always have a smile on her face... SMC1 |

| Posted over 4 years ago My mom was a single parent of two, working 7 to 7 as a home aide. Which really was not just cleaning, cooking but some nursing too. One December, when she was not home yet.from work. My brother and I, were not supposed to answer the door for anyone, but two men in uniforms were at the door with a delivery from Central Electric which I guess you could call the Walmart of those times in my neighborhood. And through the side window they told us they had a delivery that could not be left outside. So afraid that if they left it outside it would get stolen I opened the door. It was a new bike and a small light blue case thing. As soon as the door closed my brother was riding on the bike (and we lived in an apartment) and I open the blue case which turned out to be a typewriter!!! For those of you that remember the days of catalog cards and the Dewey system in library, this was major. My very own typewriter!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. When my mom arrived from work, we ran to her, before she has chance for anything (mainly chewing us out for opening the door to strangers), telling her how we loved our gifts. My poor mother had asked them to deliver on Sat. so that we would open these gifts on xmas morning. My mother worked hard all her life. I still see her at the small kitchen table counting and budgeting, making sure we had a roof over our heads and food on the table. I believe she still watches over me and protects me. love mom. |

| Posted over 4 years ago My mom's contribution to my life was extensive and mostly negative. Back and forth on antidepressants she made my brother and me her projects. She found meaning in her life making up excuses for us (protecting us) and all the while reinforcing lazines. When I announced my plans for med school, my family laughed. I guess on the upside she kept me from dying of exposure during the early years. My dad did not fall into the same category, but that's a different blog. I've had help, but most of what I've accomplished has been without support and against odds. So, no story of a mom with three jobs taking night classes and baking cookies here; but that's ok. |
