I'm just curious. Are you a dog or cat person or both? Some people such as my grandmother, don't care for animals at all. I prefer cats, but I do like some breeds of dogs. What does anyone else have to say? We need a break from politics.

I am both a cat and dog person...I love all animals.  My parents and sister don't like cats.  My sister mainly because she is allergic to them.  My grandparents had cats while I was growing up, as well as dogs.

The breeds of dogs I prefer are Akita, Boxer, Doberman, Rotts (my aunt breeds and raises them), Huskies, and Shih Tzu.  My husband and I currently have a boxer and she is a great dog.  Sadie is trained to sit, stay, come, rollover, bang bang (you shoot her and she dies), she also responds to kisses...she loves to kiss.  She is also an excellent guard dog but is very much a lap dog too.   My cat is a tabby cat, she is one of the rare female tabbies, tabbies are usually male, or so we were told.  She is a crazy cat, we rescued her from a no kill shelter.  Her orginial name was Morris, because they thought she was male, we renamed her  Sophie.

I use to own a wolf (wolf hybrid)...she was more wolf then dog.  Sheeba was a beautiful girl and such a sweetie.  She out grew our home in Texas, so we gave her to a friend who had a ranch outside of Ft. Worth, who also had a German Shepard.  She would howl at night, she could see the moon sometimes through the sun roof in our living room.  I miss her so much, even now.  We also rescued her from a no-kill shelter.

I like all critters, except of course I hate that rabbit ....

We grew up with cats and dogs, and that has helped me as a nurse when I did home care and hospice. You have to make friends with people's critters or you won't get far with them. And usually I remember pet's names but forget the people's names!

Currently I only have a cat - she is 16. Annie was a wild kitten when she adopted me, and everybody tried to tell me she was too wild and would never make a good pet.

I am a dog person. I have 3, all are heelers that we raised from puppies and they are great cattle dogs. Cats are ok if you can put up with that aloof personality of theirs, frankly though, there are enough catty females in my home, we don't need the real deal. lol

Well, if anyone goes to my profile, you'll see my tuxedo kitty lounging on his side! He doesn't know he's a cat. I think he isn't sure what he is. He wags his tail like a dog, and snuggles up to my husband every night. He literally hugs my husbands leg with his paws. He's nuts!!!

You are referring to the mental health of the cat, right?

I owned a wolf hybrid once upon a time too.  His name was Jake.   A friend of mine raised them.  He actually owned a purebred also.  Mine was about 7/8 wolf.  He was beautiful, and we got along fine, but he had the killer instinct.  I lived in a small community outside of town where things were real laid back.  One day he got loose and killed a neighbors pet.  I felt horrible, and as you might guess they felt worse than me.  Eventually I gave him to someone that had more suitable accomodations.

I love animals, but definitely am a cat person.  When I was a kid we always had dogs because nobody in my family liked cats.  When I got my first cat, I instantly took to them over dogs.  Dogs are awesome, but they are so obedient and loyal.  Cats are so snooty, they call the shots.  It's all about them, everything is on their terms.  They're hilarious.

Always dogs, never liked cats, but had to adopt two cats two years ago - they kind of grow on you! Now they're part of the family!

I understand the instinct.  I got home from work one day and I let the dogs out, I noticed a Mama Mockingbird trying to teach her baby how to fly....unfortunately the baby got down but couldn't get up, Sheeba shot off, swooped that baby bird up in her mouth, and I think swallowed her whole.  She also had food bowl aggression....which my husband did break her of.  I always had a problem with her marking her territory.  We had a roommate at the time,  that would change his son's diaper on the floor, as soon as he was done, Sheeba would urinate right in that spot... With all that said, she did house train and she did eventually settle down, she was such a sweetie.  I have pictures posted of her in my furbabies ablum.

True, but as I said, my cat doesn't know he's one, so he does usually come when you call him. He's a strange animal. We've had him since he was a kitten, and he's always had a very sweet disposition. He's a people person and literally gets lonely when we go out of town. He's usually insane when we come home. He'll meow crazily, like he can't believe we're home. He'll also be aloof for a day or two. It's like he's mad we left him. LOL!!!

I guess it depends on how they're prepared.  Sesame is nice with cat, but dog can be a bit chewy.

Well I have had both and I have to say I like dogs better.  My first dog was Boxer named Chelsea.  We did not have her too long because she was a handful and we already had two cats at the time.  A neighbor ended up taking her and we would visit her from time to time.  My last pet was  Pit Bull Terrior named Riley.  We had him for 10 years and we had to put him to sleep.  From what the vet said Pit Bulls don't usually live that long and he started to get real sick.  He was the best dog ever.  Though he though he was  lap dog and would try to sit in your lap.  He was 70 pounds needless to say.  Anyway he was very sweet to the people that he knew.  He never tried to bite anyone but when we had company we did put him up because he would bark.  When I walked him I never had to use a muzzle and when someone would approach he did not bother them unless they tried to talk to me and then he would growl.  But from looking at him most people knew he was a Pit Bull and did not bother him.  He never lunged at anyone.  But the funniest thing he would do is knock on the door like a human when he wanted to come inside.  I laughed everytime he did that.  And when he wanted you to pet him he would put your hand in his mouth and flip it up in the air to land on his head so you would pet him.  I guess you can tell I miss him.

I've had dogs all of my life, from the time I was around 2 years old.  Never been without a dog for more than a 2 years.  I've always been allergic to cats, but it's very odd, I don't seem to be bothered by my niece's two kittles, unless I rub my eyes after I love them up.

You can love both species. I do. I just find cats less complicated b/c they use a litter box. I guess its a convience thing.I should get a dog b/c it would force me to walk it and get more exercise. I just get annoyed when they are big and smelly. At least with a cat, you can spray the litter box excessively.

I do like cats, but definitely prefer dogs.  I have a rescue who was taken away from her mother at 3 weeks, managed to survive Parvo.  Ming's a Lab/Chow/Husky mix and is my best friend.  She stands over me and watches me if I am sick.  Was quite the Mom dog when I had my neck surgery and wouldn't let my border collie pup near me.  He didn't realize what had gone on, but Ming sure did.  After about 5 weeks of sleeping on the featherbed I was finally able to go upstairs to my own bed.  The moment I laid down, Ming jumped up on the bed, placed her head across my neck and whined while I petted her.  I have been blessed with having a special relationship with most of my dogs, and Ming in particular.  The girl is now 10 years old, doesn't get around as well, but if I cough real loud, pretty soon she comes walking into the room and stands there until I tell her I'm ok.

Border collies, however are a passion of mine.  It takes alot to be one step ahead of them.  Shamrock is a wonderful dog, and I take him to the nursing home where I work.  He is so gentle with the residents and will sit, give hugs, shake paws.  I am amazed he is not afraid of the equipment, he just lets the residents hug and love on him all they want.  If I weren't busy in school and working, I do believe I would take him to become a certified therapy dog.

So, it's a dog for me any day of the week, paws down!

I am a DOG person.  I love em like crazy!  We currently have 2 Shiba Inus....they are a Japanese breed.  Bred from the Akita and the Chow.  We have owned both an Akita and a Chow.  Our Akita's name was Broc.  He was awesome!!!!  Our two Shiba Inu's are Sheeba and Souroney.  We just bred our youngest.  We have 3 pups.  They are adorable!!!!   I want to keep them all!  Our family wouldn't be complete without our canines!  They are our best friends and part of the Middleton family!  I think we will always have dogs until the day we die.  We just adore them!

We have also had a Boxer, A sheltie, An Akita, A Chow, A german shephard, a Hound dog, and a few strays that just needed some love!

A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!
