| Posted over 4 years ago health and illness covers what? The one thing that my class is having a hard time with is the transition between doing tests that are a manner of memorization and facts. Tests as you go into the nursing program are set up to make you think "how does this information pertain to nursing?" Don't give up, it takes time to get the information. Good luck! |

| Posted over 4 years ago Do not quit. Keep going and learn from your past. Maybe you thought it would be easier than it was. I didn't flunk a class. but when I was in school it had to come first and never take a class for granted.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!! Hang in there. You don't have to tell anyone, so just keep your chin up and you will make it. Best of luck... Study, study and you will succeed.... I WENT TO SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND CAPITAL UNIVERSITY IN THE LATE 1980'S AND EARLY 1990'S. LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU FELLOW NURSING STUDENTS. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Hi. The school that i go to if you fail one class you fail the program. I might be the wrong person to say this, I was asked to withdraw for having a tremor. I think they think all the students are really stupid and its their job to train them other wise. I think its their job to say whatever experience you have does not really matter. Its the job of the insturctors to make sure you pass the Nclex and have enought hours your states requires. Most schools Beauty School is the same way it does not matter what you know they do not care we are here to tell you what the book says and you can pass the big test in the sky. I had a 8 week CNA class...I did not learn anything about being a CNA I learned how to pass a artifical skills test which has nothing to do with anything I have done so far. One thing that really got me, I am not sure I said this. We were taking two step blood pressures I was sitting next to this woman who was some what large, after I took the blood pressure from her said, that is a good one for you I know that was not a good thing to say. She told on the instructors that i said this . Go me thinking are we all babies...the instructors assumed that I would say to patients stupid things because they are in a vuniable condition. Just because I said to some fat woman you have lower blood pressure then I think you would have in some stupid artifical condition they think I am going to say to someone who is sick. It really pisses me off, they really do not care who you are and what your life experience is as long they tell it to you. I know all the instructors are nice people and real apporachable. I think job decription states we are the nurses and you want to be nurse, thus its our job to tell you what nurses are like. I think they have been there to long and gotten a little jaded in what life is like. If there is someone whose instructor out there who can give me a response I would love your feedback to them. I submitted a reinstatement saying I ll adhere to the conditions and I am sorry I said what I said. I am going to say Ill do this and Ill humble myself

| Posted over 4 years ago Don't be embarassed that you failed. Believe me I have failed many many of my chemistry tests.
Focus on the positives, your very lucky that your college allows you to retake classes. In my college if you fail a class, then you fail all together, which stinks, because going to school for nursing is NOT easy! Keep your head up!
YOUR DOING GREAT! :) |

| Posted over 4 years ago It can be very hard to take a class over again. Atleast you dont have to start completly over. Thats the way it works in the school I am attending now, you fail one you fail them all. I dont know what your school does for grades, (passing vs. failing) but at this one a "D" might as well be an "F". And instead of 70% being a "C" its now 76%. Well all except lab, its 85%. Anyway back to my point. I failed one class by one percent and had to start over. I had to reapply, get accepted again, the whole nine yards. It can be very emberrasing, especially when the instructors point out that youve doint the class before so you would be a great "resourse" for everyone else. I know I just went off on a tangant about that, my point is that who cares if you have to do something again. Make it into a learning experience. You will pick up more the second time around, adding to your previous time through. Lessons learned the hard way have a tendancy to stick around a little longer. This is a good way to test your resolve. Good luck. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Keep your head up! If you want something really hard just keep on going! I went to a hospital based diploma program. Accelerated 2 year program. I failed out 14 weeks from graduation by 2 questions. When you fail out there you need to wait another year to get back in. I decided to apply to a local college ( I commute 1 hour up and 1 hour back a day) I transferred in all I could from the other program and I took challenge tests to test out of other subjects and now I know that I will graduate in December. I go back @ the end of August and have 14 weeks and I WILL BE DONE! I wish I would have gone there from the beginning because I have learned so much more. Just remember it is hard to take nursing exams. You need to critical think instead of just memorizing the info. That's what makes it so hard. Don't be embarassed by failing a course. Its hard and the most important thing is you are not giving up. Passing in our class is 79% and believe me it is hard. I start out making sure now that I never get behind on any work and I put studying ahead of alot of other things. I couldn't do this if it wasn't for my husband being behind me 110%. Your support system is the most important thing. Do as many NCLEX questions a day as you can. They will teach you how to critically think. GOOD LUCK!!!! KEEP ON GOING!!! | Posted almost 4 years ago I am so thankful for all the positive encouragement here. I am a victim of this same issue. I didn't fail a class though, but I failed the RN TEAS nursing exam. In orientation, the RN nursing instructor told us, that she was a A student, and she got a 72 percent on her first exam, she said that it was unaccepted in the Rn nursing program to get such a score, she said you have to get a 75 percent or better. She said the RN nursing program takes alot of hard work, and effort, and you just can't rely on memorization, you have to understand what you are learning. So 1 or 6 points below the minimum requirement score, can mean a patients life, so keep on studying, I will do the same I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Your right about the 1 - 6 points can make a difference in a patients life. As long as you have the determination to move on. I think the one thing I had to come to terms with was trusting my instincts and second guessing myself. I've learned to not read so much into a question and look @ each answer and determine why it is not right. Just because I think I know the answer and it's there I just don't pick it. I go through and still eliminate. You are right you need to understand not just memorize. Good luck to you and keep on going. If you want it hard enough you can obtain it. I am so looking forward to graduation and taking my boards and finally realizing my dream. Our service to others is the rent we pay while here on earth!! |

I do that alot when I take test. I said I need to go with my first instincts, a instructor told me that years ago, I think it is my test anxieties, I want to be accurate, but I sometimes second guess myself. trust me, I am working on my test anxieties, and stressors. Thanks for sharing your personal experiences on taking test. I hope you do graduate, and accomplish all your goals, and dreams. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. | Posted almost 4 years ago Waaaaaaaay back in 19 and 72......... We had to take what was called the NIP (Nursing including Pharmacology) exam before taking our State Boards. (in my case, it is Ohio.) After taking the practice exam, the director of my nursing school called me to her office to talk about the grade I had gotten on my NIP. She told me that if that test had been the State Boards, I would have passed by the "skin of my teeth" only. Talk about being upset, and embarassed! My biggest mistake was on a question re: insulin. At that time there were 2 types of insulin. u40 and u80. I accidently answered the question *WRONG*! Thank God it was not Real LIfe! I have remembered that since......I did not make the same mistake on State Boards.....and now it is just u100, so we can't make that mistake anymore. I could have allowed the written mistake make me quit nursing school, by allowing me to question myself over and over, but I did not! I had a happy, and productive career as a LPN, and just recently I was forced into retirement by disability. My body gave out on me before I was ready to give up on nursing! I had wanted to be a nurse since I was 6 yrs. old. Watch your back, knees, neck and shoulders! Those are the the ones that go on ya first! Enjoy your patients and fellow nurses....there will be some that are "hard pills to swallow" but just think of the ones you enjoy/ed and those you have helped and those that have helped you.....and your memories of your nursing career will be as good as mine are! | Posted almost 4 years ago Don't think about failing. All you need to do is look over your notes, retake the course and apply what you already know to the next go around. It will be easier for you this time because you will know what to expect. It happens to us all at some point, we can't get caught up in being perfect, we just have to do the best that we can..
GOOD LUCK and keep your head high!!!!! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago Hey, Everyone has failed at something in there life....or they aren't being honest. Just retake it....it will be easier since you have already taken it. You will get a lot out of the class this time I think. Just be like the little engine that thought he could, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." Do it, go for it, pass it. I am praying for you! A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!
