Well today has not been one of my better days.   I was at work doing a competency day when I was pulled out to talk to the big wig in adminsistration.  Now for a little history.  I worked at a magnet facility and had been approached by my director and team leader regarding comments made to a physician regarding staff.  I explained to the MD then that I was getting ready to call the director to ask what should be done.  Several weeks later I was called into the office to discuss why I felt patient safety was jeopardized that day.  According to the director,  the MD stated that there was too much time being concerned with staffing and not enough time worry about patient care ( of course this is all a lie) but you are not allowed to confront the MD and ask for yourself if this was stated because the meetings are held in "confidence".  So I stood my ground on how that was a lie and voiced concerns regarding the lack of professionalism and favortism shown on the unit.  So basically I was asked to go home after that meeting and even had the HR representative state lies regarding an action I supposedly done.  When I confronted the HR person again today and had hard core facts that this person was lieing I was told that I don't fit into the facility because they don't work that way.  So I stated I can't work for a facility that does work that way.  So none of my concerns were allowed to be heard and I left.  I was even forced to show my car keys to them to prove that I did not have there work keys on my person.  So luckily I have my agency job to fall back on as far as pay but the funny thing is that the person that runs my agency is my ex-directors cousin.  So needless to say I am a little concerned that I will not have that position for very long.   I of course will be contacting an attorney regarding this issue because this facility is notorious for asking people to leave and then all of a sudden those people are back in the facility.  Basically I think it is wrong that you are not allowed to voice concerns and have proof that those poeple are willfully lieing.  See I know I am quite voicterous and was told this meeting was to address my concerns because I told the HR rep.  that I didn't feel comfortable talking with her because we don't have a good repor but I was not given that opportunity.  So if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Your first step is to contact a labor lawyer. It will drag on and on. Stand your ground. You will get fed up with it and think it is not worth the fight. Don't give up.  If what you suspect happens because of the director's cousin, you have yet another reason to sue

Anytime you want to. This is America afterall. I voiced concerns of unfair tx at my last hospital I worked at regarding pay. I was an LPN at the time but they ran me like an RN and paid me like an aide. I finally got fed up when I signed a per diem contract with a pay rate of 21.50/hr but when my first check came and my rate was my measly 14.95/hr (after 3years there) I had finally had enough. I sent a letter to my NM and she told me the contract was null and void because it only applied to RN's. I promptly quit. I am now an RN and they lost out on a valuable employee when I quit, but hey theres a steady crop of new grads in our town so the hospital in reality was probably glad to get rid of me.  I can tell you I learned JACK in RN school because you dont really learn nursing until you hit the floor so I know what a new grad is really worth. These RN's with 350 clinical hours over two years cannot compare to the LPN's with 1050 hourss of clinical time. Why is it that an accelerated program which leads to a BSN within 1 year is so superior to an LPN with oneyear experience? When you look at it BFD if someone has a history degree and then 1 year later they are todays wunderkind. What a load of crap.  UNION UNION UNION thats what nurses need to show these hospitals whose really in charge........................................................

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a question of my own, that I could use some help with.

I'm working agency, at a place I really liked.  I share an office with a guy, everytime the supervisor and I have a conversation it seems like deja vu, with a little spin on it.  Remarkably, the things that she questions me about are things that have happened in the office with this guy.  It seems that this guy is turning out to be a real jackass.  He has closed the door to yell at me and has asked me if I'm Bi-Polar and another time if I have OCD along with other stuff, but those are the things that really pish me off, how dare he?.  Now I'm not a good one to think on my feet when it comes to insults and accusations, but the more I think about it the more it burns me.  So here's the problem:  I'm agency, if I bring this to the supervisor's attention, they may not renew my contract, and if I tell the agency, they may not give me anymore work.  Am I doomed to stew over this forever?

Politics, politics unfortunately I've never been any good at this, and even though I've been in the biz for quite some time, it still amazes me that this thing goes on.  To make it worse, his is a union job, so he can basically do whatever he wants.  I'm used to being treated like crap as an agency nurse, but this guy is really getting to me.

What can I do?
