Hi eveyone. I'm currently in the LPN program and would like to move to florida to finish up RN. About how much $ do LPN's make in Florida on average? Would you recommend staying put until I finsh RN? Any advice would be very helpful.

Thanks a bunch!!

It depends on the area of Florida that you live in.  Orlando and Jacksonville are two of the higher paying areas.   The Daytona area is fairly low paying overall (anLPN with 10 years experience, that  I knew five years ago was making around 15/hr).  I've heard Miami is decent for pay, but I've also heard it was a horrible place to live (CRIME, big problem).

If you choose Jacksonville, there are nicer areas on the outskirts of the city.  I can't think of the name, but there are some smaller towns directly west, that have really good school systems.   I have family that lives on the outlying areas, and they work in Jacksonville.

I am in the Lakeland part of central Florida. It is very hard getting into the local community college RN program. You can go to Kaiser College like one of the gals at work did but it is very expensive. Personally, I would get my RN where you are and then secure a job before you think of moving.

Re: Jacksonville - there is a brand new Baptist hospital going to be opening there this year... I think around March. It is right off the interstate. With housing prices falling like a rock -as they are everywhere - you should be able to find housing.
