Rather than write his wholr plan out here, I'll give the website which corrects quite a few misconceptions that  I've read

www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/19ba2f1c-c03f-4ac2-8cd5-5cf2edb527cf.htm      Annie

Here is one BIG misconception which needs clarification:

OBAMA FICTION

John McCain Will Tax Health Care Benefits For The First Time And Will Be the Largest Middle Class Tax Increase In History.

THE FACTS

This Obama charge is a blatant mischaracterization of the McCain Health Plan. It only focuses on the fact that the value of the employer provided insurance will now show up as additional income for the employees - what he fails to mention - is that John McCain's generous refundable tax credit ($5,000 for families and $2,500 for individuals) will not only shield millions of families from a tax increase but will actually give them MORE dollars to invest in their health care needs.

I  also found this to be interesting:

The McCain Plan DOES NOT tax:

  • Premiums paid by families and individuals

  • Employers for providing health care coverage

  • Medical expenses like the cost of a procedure or medication

  • Insurance claims

So, what bennies are people talking of when they say McCain will tax health care bennies? Can someone clarify for me? He'll also be giving a $5K/$2.5K refundable tax credit. I don't see the problem here at all

Being on the advisory board, I'd have thought that his website would have had that info AGES ago; but Doug Holtz-Eakin (chief health care advisor and former head of the CBO) didn't send it out untl a few days ado. Might have been that he saw that there was a bit too much confusion on John McCain's Health Care Plan.

Keep sending it around and we'll get our man elected McCain/Paalin '08

Another fact: (This one from an Obama economic advisor)

John McCain's "Approach Supported By Obama’s Own Advisor' This is an approach supported by Barack Obama's own Senior Economic Advisor Jason Furman who wrote that "we could scrap the current deduction altogether and replace it with progressive tax credits that, together with other changes, would ensure that every American has affordable health insurance."

"Better than members of Congress"

"Under the McCain Plan, your employer can provide you with health insurance  as good as a "Member of Congress" (approximately $12,000), and you would pay no  more in taxes – regardless of your tax bracket.  In fact, you would have additional money left over from the McCain tax credit to put in a health savings account"

" Even the liberal leaning Tax Policy Center, agrees that the McCain proposals will result in a "net tax benefit" of more than $1,200 for an average tax payer." This is roughly 3  times the amount under an Obama health care plan. I mean,,  doing hte math, if McCain has you saving $1200/year and Obama $1200/3=$400. You'd save monthly under Obama= $33. Dinner for 2 at Olive Garden. But McCain $1200/12= $100. Let's forget dinner and open an IRA!

Are you on the coalition or advisory board? I just moved and keep forgetting the times! Rachel is  coming down here tomorrow I think. Wish they'd have released it a LOT sooner.

McCain hasn't framed things in a way that many people can make an easy comparison. The health care plan  (first post) is an exmple. That's new to his website Like you said, I hope it's just not too late.

Hi,

I have a question.  I am totally for McCain for President but I have been able to find very little information in the press that is positive for his health plan.  I know the press is bias, so, my question is where can I find out more information.  I went to the McCain office here at home and got a copy but why is this not out there for ALL to read.  I have taken quite a bit of time attempting to find press on this and have found very little.  Where can I go to find out more?

Prettykitty, Let me see what I can drum up, looking places. I alsoo know a gal who is one of his campaign surrogates, so I can also ask her, or when I go into the volunteer office tomorrow, I'll see what I can find.  Annie

teamrn,

thanks for the invite....here I am

Here are some more unbiased and non-partisan scholarly sources that evaluate the two healthcare plans.

http://www.urban.org/?loc=interstitialskip

http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/health_proposal_summaries.pdf

http://www.lewin.com/dyn/healthpolicies

http://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/publications_show.htm?doc_id=707948

http://www.galen.org/component,8/action,show_content/id,13/blog_id,1096/category_id,2/type,33/

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-10-21-health-plans_N.htm  (comparison created based on the sources above)

All of the analyses point out strengths and weaknesses in both plans.

Prettykitty,

Mg has some good sites listed below, but the one I find that explains the differences BEST is:

www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/19ba2f1c-c03f-4ac2-8cd5-5cf2edb527cf.htm However, this is from his website. He can't tell lies, but many people will automatically assume that there is some bias. I'd compare it to the sources that mg has below.

I really don't believe the media.  That is the point of what I was trying to say.  I cannot find very much good said about McCain in general.  Obama with all of his inexperience, bad associations, reports of widespread voter fraud in the primaries, yet he is the media darling.  Expeccially MSNBC.  Gosh.  I hope Keith Oberman meets the same fate as Dan Rather.

There's no believing the media; the term media bias. Even though therir 'function' is to report the news, there's such a  bias. Keith Obermann and Chris Matthews have already been PROHIBITED from covering the elections as a form of punishment from their network for media bias. If BO had one, even two poor associations, is one thing and could be understood. We all mess up.

But, a host of poor and questionable judgements? even if I were inclined to be in BO's camp, based on this, I'd have to cut him loose. How man of these associations is he going to 'owe' if he becomes elected? Depending on how many mis-judegements he's made, he's going to owe a lot. Then BO gives , HOW MUCH?, to his brother, living in poverty-in Nairobi? It may be his brother's choice or there may be a rift between them, but....

There are too maany 'ifs' with BO/JB, from JB's saying "it's your patriotic duty to pay more taxes" to BO saying that he'll be giving a check for ($500) (a tax crediit/cut) so they can send their kids to college. Since when can you buy a new car for $42 a month or send your child to college (saving up $42/month?).

Good stuff said about McCain is NOT going to be found on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS or NBC. That leaves FOX and they're being careful NOT to be "in the tank" for anyone.

Forget his health plan. We need universal heathcare. The rich makes a lot of money off of these companies that have to pay for health care and that is why they fought Hillary Clinton tooth and bone to make sure her universal healthcare plan didn't go through.
