Posted over 4 years ago If there are any Gordon College students here, who do you recommend as A&P and Micro instructors for a person like me who is not biologically inclined? I desperately need recommendations ASAP since registration is November 20th!! Please help!!!! |

Posted over 4 years ago Hey, I'm not a student where you are... but, I would like to ask a question.... When you say you are not a biology or science person, what do you mean? Do you understand the material but do poorly on exams? Do you just not have an interest in the material? I'm curious because nursing is in large part based upon biology and science and I'm curious about your motivations to be a nurse. Even after nursing school, you will need to refresh and upgrade your education to stay current. And, I certainly don't ask this to be discouraging at all! I would ask my son the same question if he said he wanted to be a teacher but didn't like children. See what I mean? Best of luck.

Posted over 4 years ago Well I am a science person I was a chem/pre-med major back in the day. I just posted this in another thread but how I did well in most of my science classes I memorized the material and did fine. Now I don't recommend this at all when you start taking your nursing classes if you are going to nursing school. Memorizing will not work then IMO. You just have to get out those science text books and read them. I am sure there are other ways to study science but I am just speaking from experience and 3 years of college science classes at all levels.

Posted over 4 years ago If you want to get into nursing, there is no way around A&P and micro! Sorry. When I went to school, I had been out of high school over 20 yrs..........and it wasn't easy. I just hunkered down and developed good study habits...........that's the only way I made it though. There are so many newer sources to help with these classes. Good luck. Also, get to know your classmates and see who can make good study buddies. Good luck. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie

Posted over 4 years ago I live in Middle GA. If you are not biologically inclined, nursing school will be hard for you.

Posted over 4 years ago I'm not a science person either, but I always let the teachner know up front. I almost finished with Human biology and I ended up with the hardest teacher because I waited to late to register, but its working out cause I told her I would struggle on the first dat.....Sitting in the front usually helps.

Posted over 4 years ago Well actually I hated micro and A&P and I did good in school. I think it'ss just a matter of applying yourself. The part I liked the most about micro was learning about which bacteria caused what and how abx get rid of them and that sort of thing. But the beginning of micro stunk. I really don't care about the smallest parts of the smallest cells and I still to this day never figured out how in the heck 30s and 50s add up to 100s. Good luck. just get a good study routine and you should be fine. "Softly. deftly, music shall caress you. Feel it, hear it, secretly possess you...."

Posted over 4 years ago BTW.................are you sure your not biologically inclined? Or is it just something your not experienced with? If no experience in biology is the issue.........dont give up just yet. When I was in school, it wasn't something I had experience in........and I was an older student. You have to have those classes, but dont let fear keep you from at least trying. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie
