I think I saw a post closed down by a moderator, or poor language, so I know there is one. But as far as who they are and how many they are, I don't know. Rather than get my 'arse' booted frmo this site which I come to all the time, I'll keep my nose clean. Annie |

Posted over 4 years ago I am a moderator on this site and so is starlight, we have an editor and Georgia who is also on the board. Those are the ones that I know of. Thanks for asking, it was posted a while back but gets lost, and the moderator buttons on our profiles are still not working. A busy RN is here

NursingLink is proud to introduce two new forum moderators, ABusyRN2go and StarlightRN. Both ABusyRN2go and StarLightRN have been top users and have helped NursingLink grow as a community. As moderators, they will have the power to move threads to correct forums and delete inappropriate posts material (those that violate our Terms of Use).
Join me in congratulating ABusyRN2Go and StarlightRN!
Does that answer your question(s) JUDLEERN?

Posted over 4 years ago Thank you for finding this post, again we were told NOT to delete. We must get special permission to delete if we think it is needed, they want only to lock discussions but leave them in place if at all possible. A busy RN is here

Posted over 4 years ago When I was a moderator on another site, we had two nicks, one for moderator and one for personal postings. When you were online as a moderator, you could not post in any discussion personal opinions, etc. When you were online as your private nick you could do these things. Another thing a moderator is supposed to do, when they are in moderator mode and is done on other sites is to remain neutral in certain postings and admonish both sides and or caution those who are posting vehemently, calling names and being generally rude. Doesn't seem to be this way here.

Posted over 4 years ago Moderator The moderators (short singular form: "mod") are users of the forum which are granted access to the posts and threads of all members for the purpose of moderating discussion (similar to arbitration) and also keeping the forum clean (neutralising spam and spambots etc). Because they have access to all posts and threads in their area of responsibility, it is common for a knowledgeable and trustworthy member to be promoted to moderator for such a task. Moderators themselves may have ranks: some may be given mod privilege over only a particular topic or section, while others (called 'global') may be allowed access anywhere. Common privileges of moderators include: deleting, merging, moving, and splitting of posts and threads; closing, renaming, stickying of threads; banning, unbanning, warning the members; or adding, editing, removing the polls of threads.[13 However, this doesn't seem to be happening here.

Posted over 4 years ago Deb, Is that the description for the moderators on NursingLink? I agree....there doesn't seem to be much of that going on. If there were more of that this site might be more civil...especially in the political forums. ~ Melissa

| Posted over 4 years ago I haven't personally had any problem, but I have been offended by some things that have been said about a particular member. Nothing was done. Then some others were saying somethings about another member that were mild in comparison and it was deleted immediately. Could this be politically motivated? I agree with CDnurse, I do not think someone should be able to engage in a discussion and be a moderator of that forum. . I think it should come from the staff as well, because I do not think they are being objective...... I WENT TO SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND CAPITAL UNIVERSITY IN THE LATE 1980'S AND EARLY 1990'S. | Posted over 4 years ago One job of the moderator is to make sure that topics are being posted under the correct forum. Moderators are not themselves posting under the correct forums so how could they be expected to move the topics around? Being a moderator would be a tough job. Much like being a Kindergarten teacher I think. |

Posted over 4 years ago Well, speaking here as a moderator I can tell you it is very hard some times, I stopped posting my personal opinions in detail in the political forums once I became a moderator, I have TRIED to post everyone getting along, once I had over a dozen complaints about a member here being soooo nasty and rude to others I DID post at that time to TRY and get this member to back off and be nicer to all, but I made a reference that EVERYONE should be professional, I did not say a word to this member until I had so many complaints I bit my tongue OFF many times I read this persons posting and the rudness that was spoken to others, I did NOT want to close off the discussion because I believe we ALL have the right to our opinions, I have been blasted many times on here for MY OPINION, but still believe we live in a free country, but the posts need to be productive and rudness and nastyness is NOT productive, I made a point using this to try and make THAT point. I am still human and make mistakes as we ALL do. I DO spend hours every night reading through posts and have many many members who help me in alerting to inappropriate posting, we moderators can not be everywhere, some of you should be ashamed of yourselves for the things said here. I DO feel like a kindergarten teacher, I have 7 children and 6 grand children I can see childishness believe me. I am trying to stay impartial but I am STILL entitled to MY opinion as far as my views on things here on nurse link. I have NOT deleted anything from this site to this date. We ALL have one thing in common we are all Nurses or in progress, we have MORE in common than we think, I hope we do not let a differing political views define us on this site. If anyone has an issue with me personally I am always available to chat, one on one if you wish, if you want to criticize me make it constructive do not grand stand, I am trying to make this site a great site for all of us. Many of the problems others have brought up are being worked on as we speak, so I hope we can continue this post in a productive manner as well. Sorry for being long winded. A busy RN is here

This was not a personal slam against you by any means. I was trying to point out what other moderators did on other sites, which is the norm. BUT, you singled out one member in this post and there have been several members on the political posts who have been 1. Disrespectful 2. Calling people names such as stupid, evil 3. Being out and out rude to others, often with no provocation. Several of them do not feel they've done a thing wrong. In order to be a good, unbiased moderator you have to step back and look at both sides, not just one side. Another of my intentions was to get both moderators support and priviledges such as posting, when in moderator form under a different nick or just plain moderator so you could be anonymous and safe guarded without any form of repercussions because then no one would know who you are. Nursinglink put you out here with no net. It was not well thought out and apparently no one visited or asked other sites how it was done. I will be the first to admit, I have been rude on this site and apologized for most of them or have deleted my posts. Wrong words have been said on both sides, if it had been on another site, those posts would have been deleted, the bloggers would have been warned and steps would have been taken to remove those who do not follow the rules. I wouldn't be a moderator again if I was given the moon and the stars. |

Posted over 4 years ago Good points Deb thank you very much, I do not even know what a blog is??? I have heard my teenagers mention it I thought it was something on 'MY SPACE" no?? Guess I need to go ask one of my teens what a blog is, do we have blogs on here?? If so I guess I did not know that, if so please tell me where I can find it, are bad things being said on a blog? Is a blog for trashing someone? Sorry forgive me my age is showing, I need to go put my baby dinosaur to bed now. A busy RN is here

Posted over 4 years ago I just asked my son about a blog, he said it is a place to post long talk on anything you want, so in a sense you must be correct, we are blogging! Okay now that THAT is cleared up I hope we can move on, you are right Deb nobody should be making rude and nasty comments and putting others down, maybe we can make it a NEW rule from tonight on...everyone can appologize and we wipe the slate clean, I am going to make a point of making a comment at every point someone is being nasty and rude to ANYONE else no matter WHO it is. Maybe a kindergarten teacher approach would work what do you think? A busy RN is here

Posted over 4 years ago Deb, that would be great if we could go on in moderator and be anonymous and do our job, and then go on private nick and post as a regular person. Unfortunately they don't have that here on NL. I try to read as many post as I can, but it's impossible to read them all. And if a few days goes by that I can't get on and read alot, it really piles up, and if you do something you should as moderator for one thing and just happen to miss something else, b/c of so much has been posted you get blasted, and called biased.

Abusy, I'm going to share something with you. Below you will find a post you submitted to The Truth About Obama. I have never engaged in discussion with you and at the time of this posting I had removed myself completely from all the other political sites. I had moved on and as my words in the forum clealry convey I wished for a positive atmosphere, BUT you chose to stir the pot and create a very nasty posting about me which was somewhat threatening in nature. You are correct no one is perfect....we are far from it, however you clearly do not have the capability to be neutral as a moderator should. You say you are interested in keeping things peaceful and without name calling but you do that yourself. It doesn't quite add up to me.

You can be as sarcastic as you want my dear young inexperienced mg1021 but those of us who have been RN's 30 years or more now can tell you that you never know who you are putting down and being sarcastic too, we have some talented nurses on this site and I can bet you that one of them may be saying yes or no to you when you go to apply for a job one day, you should practice now being a nice and a decent person instead of rude, sarcastic, mean, condescending, a bully, a wanna be know it all, trying to show off, it is one thing to support Obama, that is all well and good, but you seem to think you need to be rude and nasty to anyone who disagrees with you, do you want to know the truth about Obama? YOU do NOT know the truth about Obama! All you know is what you have read or seen on TV. Only Obama and his God know the truth about Obama, so get over yourself and try and not be so harsh to others.

Posted over 4 years ago Have you read it Abusy? Okay good.....here's the thing.....I have openly admitted to engaging in some heated debates and using sarcasm quite frequently. Sarcasm is not a crime and I have only ever attacked someone if they have attacked me. Again, at the time of this posting.....when you felt the need to chide me like a five year old. I had long since removed myself from the nastiness of the political sites and declared a desire for peace. However, you followed me, for a motivation I may never be privy to. I'm sorry Abusy, but I must recommend that you no longer be a moderator. It's one thing to make a mistake and then be apologetic, but it's another to make a mistake, never apologize, and try to cover up what you have done. Maybe it is not you who deletes posts, but someone is. This may be gone shortly after you read it, but I do have these nasty things saved so should the personal attacks on me (for having an individual political stance) persist, I can easily retrieve them. ~ Melissa

Posted over 4 years ago O.K. Moderators - that "Anna William1" scam email is once again being sent out - and they were online last night, and again just now, probably distributing more. Can't anything be done about this?

Posted over 4 years ago NursingLink put these two moderators out here on this forum without a safety net. Two is definately not enough to read and monitor all of these posts, particularly in the political forums. This is reprehensible and short sighted.

Posted over 4 years ago I used to get lots of these in my regular email - you get fewer if you use an adderess with numbers and characters - they are usually sent sequentially to email lists. This is a very powerful criminal enterprise in Nigeria, very organized (this is not an urban legend - it is real). Law enforcement (over there) fights it, but it is difficult. The main thing is that they prey on the good hearted nature of people, or just plain greed. They make upo as story designed to get you to give them banking info,. Then they can withdraw your money. They will ask for account numbers and such. It takes all forms. Here's one, a shortened version: "You have won the Nigerian lottery! Send us your bank info so we can deposit the ten million dollars in your account." If you think people don't fall for this, I've had several emails from Nursing Link people who were unsure of what to do. One had even responded to the scam email, wanting to help! A word of advice: NEVER RESPOND AT ALL... If you do, even to tell them to shove it, they now know there's a real person behind that particular address, and you may be inundated with these things! I reported this one to a moderator, and within a day they had removed the offending party. So if you get one, report it right away!

Posted over 4 years ago Anna WIlliams was put on the black list and banned from the site the first time these letters came out. Evidently she has come back on with a slightly different profile name. I didn't get the e-mail, and can't seem to find her profile. This may have already been address, but I can't be sure. IF someone could send me a link to her profile, I'll make sure it's taken care of, if it hasn't already been taken care of.
