I do my share of joking around, about how crazy patients are, etc. etc.  On an episode of CSI, Grissom had a great line - "I love humanity, it is people who drive me crazy". But, nursing is all about being open-minded, and reaching somebody on a deeply spiritual level. It is about healing. Forgive me if this sounds preachy or whatever, but I have something to share with you that I came across years ago in Hospice training. Hope it gives you something to think about.

When Is Dawn?

A rabbi put this question to his students:

"How can we determine the hour of dawn, when the night ends and the day begins?" "When from a distance you can distinguish between a dog and a sheep." suggested one. "When you can distinguish between a fig tree and a grapevine" offered another.

"No,", the rabbi said, "When you can look into the eyes of a human being and have enough light to recognize that person as your brother or sister. Up until then it is night, and darkness is still with you."

I agree with MamaDawn about the title of this forum. It is a bit edge-y if you know what I mean.

Just want to add that the story the OP posted is actually written in The Talmud. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact source/Tractate (The Talmud is very large) or which Rabbi this was, but I do know that's where this story originated from.

Those are two words put together to draw attention to a good topic, which as you see it has.  We are all adults, I think we can forgive the play on words.  There is enough negativity in this world, let us just look at the positive with this post.  I think we can forgive the title just this once.

CD you are right....so many words can be interchanged with swear words...

This was very nice. Like cdnurse, it's nice to see everyone getting along and sharing experiences. This is what NL is all about for sure. I think we should all get "gold stars" today! LOL

Treat others the way you want to be treated. Something my grandma use to say to me all the time when I was a young girl. It sticks with ya, that's for sure.  : )
