Do companies like this have a book they go by? As in "How To Alienate Motivated and Loyal Employees"? My response would be to put my resume out there. Just being nominated for an award like that is impressive. You must be doing something right, and if your employer doesn't appreciate that then I bet somebody else will! 

Of course, call the people presenting the award and explain the situation to them. Let them know you aren't just blowing it off by not showing up.
