Posted about 4 years ago I went right out of high school for a completely different major and went to get my master's in crj (hated it) then business school (hated even more) and am now starting nursing school in August at 27. I eventually plan on becoming a CRNA so I will be in school forever but feel it is definitely worth it.

Posted about 4 years ago Well, my first time in college is now at 40. And I must say I enjoy it alot, back in my younger years I wouldn't have taking it as serious. I have 6 children, my two youngest are 2 and 1 year of age.

Posted about 4 years ago Might have most of you beat. I graduate in December with ADN. And I am 53 years old. My youngest son will graduate with Bachelors in Criminal Justice next May six months after me!!! Never to old to do what you wanted to do before the kids came along. Think about it, when will you retire? Do you want to do a job just to earn a paycheck or do you want to do what you love for the next 15 years!!! Our service to others is the rent we pay while here on earth!!

Posted about 4 years ago Wow, this thread is inspiring. Went to school at 40 and got 2 bachelor degrees, one of them a BSN. Now at 51, I was thinking I might be too old to go on towards a MSN. That is, until I read this thread. Thank you for sharing and helping to motivate me to go on in my education.

| Posted about 4 years ago I was 39 and went back part time at first. As a young person, I quit high school and attained a GED while in the Army way back in the 80's and worked blue coller jobs for almost twenty years. I was tired and cash deficient, but I did manage to purchase a home by age 36 that I still own today. I always hade a keen interest in healthcare and decided, at 39, it was now or never to make a career change and do something about it. I entered a community college, took a placement test, and found out I needed to take 2 preparatory math classes (non-credit), pass them, and proceed to intermediate algebra prior to my 12th credit hour in order to proceed. Somehow, I did that with hard work. I finished my prereq's and applied to nursing program with a 3.84 GPA, passed the NET and TEAS (the college was comparing the two at the time) and started this January in a ASN program. So far, so good and starting an OB rotation next week. I plan to enter a transition RN to BSN program after one year of med-surg experience. The message? I'm not special, but I had my back up against a wall and had to work hard. There is no age limit to nursing if you have the physical ability and the desire. BTW, the same guy that had to take the prep math classes received an "A" in Pharm I. I'll be 44 when I graduate.

Posted about 4 years ago I was 35 when I first started college, I was married with one child and working full time as an LPN. I had always wanted to be an RN and the oppurtunity arose to be able to do that and I had to jump on it. I am not 53 and back in school for my BSN and as scary as it is I am loving the knowleedge and confidence I am gaining. Over the w/e here is the Philly area there was a woman who graduated from college with her degree and she was 72, so you never are too old to learn.

Posted over 3 years ago I started college right out of high school. In fact, I started college on my 18th birthday, but I never finished because I allowed people to talk me out of doing what I wanted to do and my grades were not the greatest, so I quit and got married. I got divorced by age 32 and kept losing my job so I decided to go back to school to try to stablize my future for my daughter and I. I am now 37 and will graduate in 2 more years.

Posted almost 3 years ago I actually started college right after high school, but allowed people to talk me out of doing what I really wanted to do so I quit and got married. I had a daughter and got divorced and decided it was time to secure our future so I went back to school after 10 years. I am working my way towards graduation for Dec 2011. I owe my success in school to my husband whom I met the day I got my school supplies for my first semester back. If it wasn't for him I would never make it.

| Posted almost 3 years ago I was 22 when I first went to college. Right out of the service. I wanted to go into nursing, but this was in the 60's and men were discouraged from going into nursing. So I recieved a degree in Comparative Religions when I was 26........boy were the job offers comming in with that degree.....lol. I worked different jobs over the years....insurance, teller in a bank and finally as a night auditor in a large hotel. When I was 52 I went back to school for my BSN. I have no regrets. John L. | Posted over 2 years ago I think I 'dabbled' at college in my early 20's thinking that I'd go at it seriously once I had kids because "I'd have more time". What a joke. All it took to get me distracted was a coo, or a smile, or a tug at my clothing then look into 2 beautiful, innocent eyes and down the books went. Sooo, I took my time, and did not get my degree until I was 29!!! |

Posted over 2 years ago Started nursing school at 42 and graduated at 44. Would have been nice if I would have heard the calling 20 years ago but I didn't. I'm completely enjoying it now and although I'm usually very impressed with the 20 something nurses I find that I have far fewer distractions in my life. I'm just glad to be here now. I continue to learn every day
