Posted over 4 years ago I just wanted to say hello to everyone outthere, I am very excited I got accepted into the nursing program and I will be starting my classes in january!!! So far I heard it is a very demanding program and I am quite anxious to know what is all about. So I was wondering what are the things you like the most about the profession and the things you don't like as much and how you cope with them :)

| Posted over 4 years ago Congratulations! What I like about nursing: Well of course the rewarding feeling of making a difference in peoples' lives, but also the flexibility: Choose your specialty... E.R., mobile intensive care, pedi, labor & delivery, cardiac, geriatrics, oncology, and on and on... Work in a hospital, nursing home , clinic, doctors' office, high school, become a nurse educator, travel nurse.... Choose your shift to suit your lifestyle: midnights, evenings, days, weekends only, or per diem whenever you want. Good luck in school! |

| Posted over 4 years ago Firstly, congrats!!!! YOu are about to begin a wonderful journey in medicine. ER is my favorite! You NEVER know what will walk in or roll in the door! There are ALL ages and ALL kinds of illnesses and emergencies. You will enjoy nursing so much. YES, it is very demanding. School will take everything out of you. Just give it your all. If you REALLY love it, you can do it! Hang in there. Good luck and God bless! A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

| Posted over 4 years ago Congrats and WELCOME! As an elder, I am always glad to see someone young and sharp join the battle. Nursing is just so awesome, and I continue to be amazed at what we can accomplish as nurses. We touch lives on a deeply personal level, and really do make a difference. It is demanding to the point of unreasonable, but that is just part of it. You are not one of the regular folks anymore. You have chosen something that not just anybody can do. The most discouraging part of being a nurse, for me, is when I see new nurses get burned out quick and leave nursing. It takes time to develop skills as a nurse, and to learn how to survive day-to-day life. I am glad you are thinking things through and trying to prepare yourself. Do everything you can to get off to a good start. Get in to good study habits and work hard, and everything else will take care of its self. Stay focused, and just hang in there. Ain't no cowboy that never been throwed, and ain't no horse that can't be rode as we cowboys and cowgirls say. Like LawyerRN says, you have a lot of options as far as a career path. You might get surprised as to what area pulls at you. Keep us posted how you are doing, and take advantage of the support you can get from here. Having a strong support system in place while you are in school will definitely help. Our prayers and support are with you! Keep in touch. Walter |
