Hey guys!

Did you ever have an experience that you fell in love with your patient or colleague (i.e. doctors, fellow nurses, CNA, et. al.)?

What did you do if ever?

Isn't it weird guys if this happens?! I had a patient before who had a crush on me... He even told a family member to ask my number. You just don't know what to do if the person asking is older than you. Ever had this experience?

No, I have had crushes on co-workers, but have always kept my professional and personal life very separate. I am very choosey about the nurses I hang out with as well. I was taught you don't mix business with pleasure, it will come back and bite you.

I have had patients that have tried to flurt with me, but I cut it off right away. I am very nice, but very professional.

I am not saying that you aren't, so please do not take it that way, this is just how I handle such matters.

Great subject....

I WENT TO SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND CAPITAL UNIVERSITY IN THE LATE 1980'S AND EARLY 1990'S. LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU FELLOW NURSING STUDENTS.

It would have to be love at first sight. I don't get to see them long enough in the ER to know much more than allergies and what keeps them from pushing that button. There was this one pt, who needed a skin tag removed and wound cleaned, who threatened me throughout the entire process. The whole time I'm thinking to myself, "I've never really heard of a tech getting sued before." Anyway, after the dust settled I said, "there, we're finished," expecting a, "get the hell out of my room." Instead, she said, "ok" are you married. I wasn't interrested, but was caught so off guard I had to respond with, "what?" She ask again and I said yes and I have 6 kids (I don't). She told me not to lose my boyish smile and I thanked her and walked out. I was joking with the other techs, contrasting the challenge I started with and  the compliment I ended up receiving. It's always a great boost to my ego, but I would never cross that professional line. Time and a place.

As far as peers go, it will come back to get you every time. I've seen it create awkard situations between co-workers. I've also seen co-workers who were married playing out their drama in the workplace. Not saying it can't be done, but there realllllly needs to be a huge amount of maturity on both parts to consider it.

Thank you for that! I didn't entertain him actually... I just said that it was a weird situation esp. when he asked a family member to approach me as well. You're right! We have to be professional at all times. Be nice as possible to them...

Woah! That's scary to have a stalker... You just don't know up to what extent he can get.

Wow! You must have a really nice smile...  You got a point there too... Issues at home or in your relationship can cause problems at work! You just have to learn to separate work with your personal life.

think about having a relationship with someone and it turning ugly, then you would have to see this person everyday, if it is a co-worker. As far as patients, I have never been attracted to a man in a gown... LOL

Oh yes Jud! I can just imagine the fury in the workplace... Things won't go very well at all! Maybe if they have different nursing stations though. It would be better.

Lol. Good one Jud! Same here!

Let's see...a patient stalked me as well as a Chief Resident who followed me to the Parking garage!   Yes, he was fired because my co-workers noticed that I always felt awkward when he's around...to the point of avoiding him at all cost.  He would do things inappropriately even after I told him off...maybe he thinks he can get away with it and look what happened!  I guess he now knows not to mess with nurses!!! LOL  As with docs, yes, I dated a few and I always keep a professional conduct at work.  But it's really weird when the guy I dated for 2 yrs started asking around why I broke up with him from the other nurses...well, I always remain friends with them because they know that we certainly had "good memories" together! :)

Dated a few colleagues in the ER over the years...kinda awkward if you weren't exclusive.  They would get a bit angry if you talked to someone else.  Met my wife when she was a flight nurse & was helping out in the ER.  We kept it under wraps for a few months.  She's incredible and I'm lucky enough to have been married to her for the past 10 years.

I've never fallen in love with a patient or colleague, but I have little boys (I'm a school nurse) propose to me at least a few times a week. They are so cute!

I honestly have never had a crush on a patient or coworker.  Patient-I had this issue so that if I ever saw an appendage on a person, I sure wouldn't go to dinner  with them.<I married a manufacturing/HR guy>.  Coworker:  nope, noway...........but I've been hit on by a coworker,  didn't appreciate it, and even went as far as to go over my supervisor's head to HR with the complaint because she <my boss> told me to 'deal with it myself'.  I quit my job there and it was a huge mistake to let that gross jerk run me off without getting a lawyer.   Why in the world would I 'deal' with HIM when I took the stairs to avoid even being in an elevator with him.

We only have one heart, take care of it!

I have a story, I felt in love with a patient. It happened six months ago. It was love at first sight, it really was. I'm a CNA. The day I meet him, he wasn't my patient, but his CNA was busy so I had to go to his room when he called. As soon as I saw him, I felt something inside me that I never felt before. I did not know his diagnosis at that time. The next day when I returned to work, I was assigned to his care. It was then when I found out that he had a SCI. It did  not make a difference to me, I felt in love with him. As the days went and I got to know him. I discovered he is an amazing guy. The feeling was mutual, he felt in love with me too. By the time he was discharged from the hospital, which was like almost 2 months later, we could not live without each other. I do love him and I never imagined that I would find love like this. The fact that he is paraplegic does not make a difference, I love him, just as he is.

I've had some male pt's flirt with me, but i've always kept a professional distance. I did date a co-worker( a male RN) and lived to regret it. We met in an orientation class and hit it off very quickly. Unfortunately, he was a "Mama's boy", and he broke up with me a month later. I was a single divorced mother at the time, and apparantly mommy did not approve. I was heartbroken, and had a hard time going to work and seeing his car on my way in. I vowed never to date anyone I worked with ever again. I ended up leaving the job,b/c it was too much to handle at the time.

Seems like the older men are attracted to me while doing my clinicals. Wish I would meet a handsome young dr for goodness sakes!

They always want to give me a kiss. I extend my hand.

ckruszka, too bad that you had to leave the job.  Even though you were hurtIi is good that you learned early on of his bib baby problems. There will be someone for you when you least expect it.  And, it could be some one from work.

Sap, why is it the old guys chase the young girls and think that they stand a chance? Forget the young docs. that is nothing but trouble and heartache.
