If I recall correctly, OD also stands for right eye. |

I believe that once a day is QD, this is why a lot of institutitions are requiring that orders be written out with the full spelling of the words, not appreviations, to prevent confusion. |

| Posted about 1 year ago OD has never been an accepted abbreviation for once a day, it has always been QD Because of the confusion, at least on the west coast, accepted abbreviations is now a very short list. |

| Posted about 1 year ago QD is actually 4x a day... OD is for right eye and o.d. is for once a day. |

I don't know where you were trained but QD means every day (Quoque Die)not 4 x a day. QID is four times a day (quater in die) |

I was talking about universally accepted abbreviations. I've never worked in a facility that used o.d for every day and I've worked in hospitals across the country in 25 states. This is the biggest problem with using abbreviations now, when back 30 years ago, only universally accepted abbreviations were allowed to be used. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I'm from the Philippines Deb... So, I don't think it's even applicable what your explanation is because it's applicable here in the U.S. I believe every country has differences in abbreviations. Because we still use those abbreviations and write it in paper for nurses notes. |
