Posted over 4 years ago Ok I need some input from yall on here. I am 20 years old and my mom is a single parent to me. I am in school going towards my RN and I work also full time basically at an assisted living home with Alzheimers and dementia residents. I was wondering if anyone could give me some helpful suggestions how to manage work, school and I am taking Anatomy at the sametime. I am beyond stressed out and I have the drive to become an RN it just stresses me out so much. I just would like to know how ya'll got through the rough times. I just need a little appreciation and drive.. If ya'll could help me out in some way about advice, or anything I will greatly appreciate it..
Thanks

| Posted over 4 years ago Getting through school is never easy, but remember that it is only temporary. Just keep plugging away and try not to get overwhelmed by looking too far ahead. Right now your hours are divided into school, work, study, family time, personal time. Figure out when you will do each thing...and don't forget about the personal time! Make yourself study for an hour and then go out with friends. Don't take on any more work obligations than you absolutely have to. Stick to your schedule, eat right, and tell yourself every week: "I am one week closer to being done!" I have students that have multiple children, full time job (or jobs), even disabilities. The ones that do well are the ones that make school a priority, but not the ONLY priority. It can be done! Good luck! |

| Posted over 4 years ago Try to get a study group together. There will be someone there who gets something that you don't, and most likely you will understand something that someone else won't, you can all help each other. In another discussion, a student was also stressed about anatomy. There was a link there posted by callbellcboy re: A&P and another resource that I used in the dark ages before the internet, was the A&P coloring book. I think the link was under the Student Lounge Forum. I have spoken before about my friend Chi, she worked 40 + hours nights to send money home to Nigeria and support herself, took naps in the lounge because she was exhausted. We woke her up, dragged her to class, shared our notes with her and made her stay awake for the study group. She made it through with a little help from her friends, is now a very succesful RN and she passed the boards on her first try. (By the way, she was the Micro expert when we took it over the summer) You can do it. Ask us for help, and if the are inclined, use the nurses where you work when you can. I think we also have a Nurse Educator forum, search it, and search the Student Lounge forum. Don't forget to BREATHE, we've all been there. Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that stood it's ground.

| Posted over 4 years ago Nursing school isn't easy!! But I can say that if you think "anatomy" is tough, you are really in trouble because it only gets harder and more stressful. I too am on my way to become a RN. God willing, I graduate in June 2009. We all get stressed but yes, I know its temporary. You need to stay focused and just study as much as possible. I like getting together with my other nursing friends and having study groups. We all help each other out. Prayers are a good thing too. If nursing school or the "med" field was such an easy one, there wouldn't be a shortage of nurses like there always are. I just can't wait for it all to be over. Almost 4 years of school and I feel drawn out and feel like I never want to open a book again. I have pushed many of my friends away, becaues I just don't have the time to spend with them anymore. Some understand and some do not. I do try and relax on summer break with them. Good luck to you and if you really want to become a nurse............................................YOU WILL! |

| Posted over 4 years ago Breath! Remember, breathing is your friend. Also remember that nursing school and work is like giving birth. It won't last forever and when it is over, you have something that you really want and was totally worth it. Above anything else, remember that you are not alone. You have people in your life, both in person and here online, who are willing to listen and suport you through these rough times. I went through nursing school at 50 and 51 doing just what you are doing now. I graduated in December, boarded in January, and started my bachelor's program in May while I was still in my residency program and taking critical care classes. See, you aren't alone. Keep you eye on the prize little one. You will make it. |
