I'm not sure this is the right category - here goes: the MD office I work for employs 2 of us from the same temp agency. We share the days needed.- 3 or 4 days per week. We are about the same age, both good workers and good nurses. We both get along well with the staff and patients. Here's the thing: the other nurse brings in food, at least, once a week for the staff. I' m talking lasagna, brownies, her secret recipe chocolate cake, pies. The staff "eat this up" . They love it. I'm not bringing any food in. I'm not lowering myself to compete with her. I'm there to do my job the best that I can and that's it. Here's the problem: the other nurse seems to be getting more days than I am. Does anyone think this is fair??

charlite- not fair, but what is fair? maybe the staff and doc or docs like the bribery of food. I applaud you for not competing with her. Have you considered a special treat on a special holiday? or after an exceptionally rough day, maybe coffee break treats as a thank you for the previous days work. not an every week affair, but a true from the heart thank you. might let them know that you also value them just not stooping to bribery. Just a thought.

Talk with your scheduler. Is it from the temp agency or the office. She may have told them she needed more hours. It certainly is not fair. But either change to another office or find out why she is getting more hours. You don't have to compete with food but for your own piece of mind you may want to know if that is the real reason she is getting more hours

Hey there guys, I am so tired of this word "fair". It is what it is. If you want more hours, go and ask for them. Be assertive. If you start getting more than your coworker, will she think that's "fair". Nothing in this life, on this planet, or existing in this reality is fair. The guy that came up with that word should go down in history with the guy that invented beta-max. Just enjoy your work, whatever you make it. Enjoy your coworkers, and certainly enjoy the free grub I have never known a nurse to turn down free food, me included. And to those of you who do turn down free food, they now have treatments for anorexia. Love ya'll.

ljr3418: I do not like the term "life is not fair". It's not Life that's not fair-it's People who are not fair. It's not as simple as asking for more hours-(I have done that too). this is another situation where the other nurse is making herself indispensable by providing food, which the employees just love. P.S. we work opposite each other so I do not get to enjoy the "free grub". I love your sense of humor! But everything is not a joke.

Not to take sides but maybe she has another reason for bring in the food.Like maybe she likes to eat and feels funny about eating if frount of everybody while they are not so she brings enough to share.I know I am that way.Or better yet maybe she likes to cook and has no one to share it with. But if you need and /or want more want more hours talk to the scheduler.Only the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
