Posted over 4 years ago Have any of you ever heard of, or used, a montgomery dressing? I recently used one on a post-op, and it was perfect for the situation. The other nurses on the unit had never heard of it. Most of them had been nurses less than 5 years, but a couple had been med/surg nurse for more than 15 years. It was great fun to share the knowledge. Just wonder if it something not taught or used anymore. |

| Posted over 4 years ago We used to get patients with Montgomery straps after abdominal surgeries. Is that what it was? Two adhesive strips with holes that you lace up like a shoe? They would be placed vertically, at the midline of the abdomen. They worked pretty well to keep the incision approximated , but they would do a real number on the skin, from the tension on the surrounding area. Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that stood it's ground.

| Posted over 4 years ago Montgomery straps are still used but I personally don't like them, because they often cause skin breakdown from the adhesive. I much prefer an abdominal binder. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I haven't done Med-Surg for ages. I was thinking about this today. I think we mainly saw them when a wound had dehisced <spelling?, doesn't look right>. Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that stood it's ground.
