I was just reading a thread on the most romantic proposals and I loved it, so I wanted to start a topic to share how we met our husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, partners, etc. I bet some of you have GREAT stories. Okay, I'll start....

I met my boyfriend....when I was a litte kid! We grew up in the same small town (outside of Austin) and were friends all through high school. In HS I realized I had feelings for him, but never did anything about it. Well....4 years later....my senior year of college...we randomly ran into each other after he had moved back to TX. We began hanging out, then dating, and we've been together for 3 years now.

Okay, share your stories!

I met my husband on yahoo.  My girlfriend dared me to make a personal ad on yahoo personals.  I wasn't too sure about it, but I figured I would try.

I was at work one day and I noticed that I had received a message from "Shannon." I read this long letter he had written me, basically telling me about himself, however I had never met a man named Shannon so I wrote back and said I am sorry, but I am not interested in dating a female... he then wrote back, last time I checked I was a man.

We spoke via IM for about two weeks, then on the phone for another week.  I had not even seen a picture yet.  He finally uploaded one and sent it to me and oh my he was gorgeous.  He called me on a Thursday evening, told me he was coming by work to take me to lunch for an ice breaker date.  Then that Saturday, we spent the whole day together and he took me to dinner at Red Lobster, (that is where he proposed in the same booth that we sat at on our first date...and we go to Red Lobster every year on our anniversary_.  We have been inseperable ever since.

I can honestly say that I fell in love with my husband not because of his looks (though those were a nice addition) but by his heart, his mind, and the wonderful conversations we had before we met.  He is truely a wonderful man and my best friend.

We have been together 5 yrs and married 3.

I kinda met my significant other on yahoo as well only we didnt realize it! we had been talking for about a month, he was out of the country fighting in IRAQ! Anyway i went to a club in Houston and i saw this amazing looking cowboy that filled out his jeans really well!! GOD I LOVE CUTE BUTTS!! Anyway we hadnt exchanged pics because we wanted to get to know each other based on personalities and like and dislikes first! well of course i had a little bit to drink and i walked up to him and asked him to dance and he agreed!! YAY ME i thought. Anyway later that night we got to talking and i finally told him my real name, and what i did and he was like OMG ARE YOU AGGIEGIRL1989? and i said yes and he told me who he was and well as we say the rest is history! we have been together for 6 years and he just left for Afghanistan this week but on Sunday night i got an AMAZING DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING!! I feel sooo blessed but sooo scared that he will be gone for 2 years!!!

Awesome posts....but I'm breaking the Texas thing, lol...I'm from VA! Anyway, my hubby and I met in school. We were friends from the time he moved to the small town I'm from all the way until now :). He graduated HS a year before me and went to the Navy. I finished HS, and we kept up with each other. We both made a couple of mistakes and in the end wound up together anyway. That just goes to show that love WILL find a way!

I met my husband through a blind date setup that I didn't even know as a setup. I went to a party with my roomate, her friend and the friends boyfriend. Apparantly they had it all worked out that we were perfect for each other but we had neve  even met!. He was oblivious to the whole thing as well. So we are all playing cards and having too much to drink and my friends boyfriend writes "kiss me moose" on my arm. This was my husbands nickname in college btw, don't ask me why. Because both of us were so shy it took a bit for them to get us actually talking to each other. We said goodnight without even a goodnight kiss. The next night he came over to my apartment and told me he had been thinking about that goodnight kiss he missed out on all night and gave it to me right then. I melted. The rest is history. My (ex)friends (ex)boyfriend is my husbands best friend and he still credits himself with our lifelong happiness to this day! Thanks Chris!!!!

Hah......This is too cute!!!!  All these stories sound so serendipitous.  Wow....it does feel good to think you and your mate were meant to be!

So, I actually first met my hubby in 6th grade.  I tried living with my mom and went to the school there for two months.  Didn't work so I went back to my old school near my g-parents and didn't really think much of the other students I met, but always remembered their faces (i'm a visual person).  Soooooo, 2nd week of senior year in HS.....here comes this guy walking in late to first period.  He was obviously a new kid and all eyes were on him....of course.  It took me a minute......and then......pow......it hit me.......I slapped my friends arm and said, "hey I know that guy".  She didn't believe me, but I never forget a face and his eyes were sure unique.  I waited a few days until I heard the teacher call his name and then approached him.  Sure enough, it was him......he was in that class 6 years prior.  I brought in our class picture and he was totally embarassed.

We started just passing notes as friends......then I talked to him on the phone......8 hours staright on our first conversation!!!!!!  I LOVE THIS GUY.....I thought to myself!  A week later he asked me out in a note, he passed me after class.  LOL!!!!!

We've been together ever since.....12 years total and 4 years married just last week!

I met my husband at a parent/alumni/student/teacher mixer at the college my daughter was attending..........I only went because I wanted to meet the advisor who had talked her into doing a major in anthropology and minor in german.........then apply for law school.  WTH?  I went with the idea of major damage control for my daughers future since she was being stupid and I was forking out a fortune for dorm life.  I met the teachers, advisors, etc.......but the goob I wanted to 'meet' wasnt' there.........actually both goobs had the eye out for me I guess because I kept  missing them.  Maybe I looked like a mean lady in scrubs with her daughter looking totally embarrassed to be there with me.  A friend of mine who was the ladies soccer coach briefly introduced me to a couple of people, then I left.........nobody there to fuss at about bad advice to my daughter....how employable could she be with a degree in anthropology/german?  Anyhow a couple days later, my husband started calling me up and asking me out to dinner and said we met at that mixer............I asked. "which one were you"?  He said "Im not one of the good looking ones and Im one of the MBA advisory board members"............My mind was blank........I was hoping it was this dishy looking Clark Kent looking dude with expensive looking rimless glasses on..

After him badgering me for 4 weeks, I finally said 'ok, meet me at Appleby's in a town 20 miles away and on my way home from work..............a 10 hr day of home health.  It was my plan to show up looking like crap.  I had 2 exhusbands who said 'I loved you at 1st sight'............so I didnt want to look hot.  I had on faded lemon scrubs..............a wound vac had exploded on me in the am..........and there were a few 'dried droplets' on my left leg.  A red pen exploded in my right pocket.  Oh, we had thunderstorms all over the county and my umbrella was stolen in the projects by somebody while I was doing a disempaction.  I met my goal of looking like crap when I got out of my car.  When I walked in, this weird dude was waving at me with a huge smile on his face..............I did NOT remember him from that mixer!    I was thinking.................OMG, I have a date with a gopher.................   before I sat down, I apologized for my appearance and was hoping I grossed him out, nope;  He was still smiling.  I sat down after doing the best of a scrub down in the bathroom as possible at an Applybyes.  He started talking and he had the most soothing voice I had ever heard.  He was funny, sweet, and respectful.  He got a laugh at my nasty uniform and found it to show I was probably a thorough nurse.  When 15 minutes passed of just listening..........his voice, his tone, and his good nature and sense of humor.............he transformed from that ackwarad guy and was now the most beautiful guy on the planet.  I was like Sally on Charlie Brown mooning over Linus with stars in her eyes!  We went out the next night and I did look good for that date, lol.   My thoughts for going on my 1st date in that condition with this man was that if he's grossed out by me it will save me from getting hurt by him going ahead and telling me he cant date me because I was a hot mess.  18 monthes later, happily married with a nice rock.

We only have one heart, take care of it!
