Posted over 4 years ago Don't know where to post this, or how important it might be, but it might be an interesting topic to discuss (now that elections are over!) I wonder how many people here are just making up their qualifications? Let's say, oh, guys just looking around to meet women (or vice versa), so they say they're "Doctor so-and-so" from a particular state. Or pretend they're an RN or LPN to try to fit in here, when really they're not... Well, just about every state has an online licensee search for nmost disciplines. I used them all the time when I worked for the state, to verify licenses and certifications. You can find my RN license number (but not attorney license, those aren't online, but I'll email you a copy!) So just go to the State website, find "licensing," enter the discipline, and HEY, what do you know? There's no one with a medical / RN / LPN license in that state! O.K., so I have too much time on my hands.... And I'm naturally suspicious, being an old cop and prosecutor, but it's kind of interesting checking these things out! I don't find many, but I've found a few! I guess the serious aspect of this is to always remember that anybody can put anything they want on a site, fact or fiction. Lying isn't a crime unless you're trying to defraud someone (like the begging for money scam we saw a month ago) I've met some very wonderful people here, and most people are honest, but BE CAREFUL, especially if you arrange to meet someone. Enough, lecture is over! |

Posted over 4 years ago your post made me wonder about my own profile...I chose ADN-RN because that is my ultimate goal with "considering nursing" as my status since I have not made it to school yet...did I choose the wrong things?

Posted over 4 years ago Yeah, I know what you're saying! It's a bit confusing registering here, not too clear on what you should put there. We've had disputes over that! Actually, what you said sounds right to me. A lot of people clear up any confusion by specifying their situation in their profile. I guess I was thinking more of people who clearly try to pretend they are something that they're not!

Posted over 4 years ago Rick, I understand exactly what you are saying. Some of these license verification sites list your HOME ADDRESS. I don't think for us girls that is a good thing to ever post online. Someone could show up at your door, Or worse show up at your door while only your kids are home, and know your kids name....(especially if you have posted their pictures and names) etc "Hi, Sarah, I know your Mom Mary Sue, she works at XYZ". I see pictures and all kind of personal details posted. While, I feel that being safe is an ABSOLUTE PRIORITY, a lot of nursing license verification's also provide such details as MAIDEN NAMES, and previous addresses (if you know that they had license in another state). All these are details that could be used to forge someone's identity. While there are people here online, that I too suspect of Fraud, I'm not willing to make myself or my kids an internet target for anyone.

Posted over 4 years ago I certainly agree with the concern about posting too much info on the net because you never know who is reading it. When I hire a nurse I am online with dept of Registered nursing but I would NEVER want to have people in this forum checking on others lic or not, that gives personal info and your nursing lic for someone else to potentially steal. SO I think for the sake of this forum you take people at there word because lets face it most of us will NEVER meet and who cares really anyways?? We are NOT asking someone to give us a personal reference. My husband is a lawyer too and I can tell ya there are many ways to check on people, BUT who has the time or inclination?? This is just for fun, if someone wants to lie about there position or license WHO CARES! Maybe they need to feel good about them self while online, no biggee to me really, I know who I AM and a handful I have met here that we also email personally and I'm good. People can make whatever assumptions they want and will no matter what anyone else says. A busy RN is here

Posted over 4 years ago Maybe LawyerRN thinks there might be some guys signing up just to prey on females or vice versa I guess....and they're really not health care professionals at all.....just creeps trying to use NL as a dating service. Maybe the message here is be careful who you get close to....not necessarily verify everyone's license number. LawyerRN....you're so protective of us. I love it! ~ Melissa

Posted over 4 years ago Like Grandma said, trust 'em as far as you can throw 'em. Sometimes my b.s. detector goes off pretty loud - not sure what the pathological need is of some people to post here. Attention Seeking Syndrome, if you get my drift ...

Posted over 4 years ago My BS meter has been going off lately, too...I think the ASS acronym is right on, callbellboy...I mean...attention seeking syndrome. I hate to call people out, but do you really think throwing a labcoat and stethoscope on a profile pic is gonna win hearts? Lame, pompous, maybe....

Posted over 4 years ago Good points everyone! New Jersey used to give full home addresses too, but there was such an outcry from the nursing community that now they just give the city. I didn't realize some states still do! Yikes! If yours does, use a p.o. box for your licensing board, that's what I used to do. Lying about a license to feel important is harmless, but there are predators out there in society who use phony info to get people to reveal personal information that they could use for a scam or worse. I've seen it. I want all my friends here to be careful! The bottom line is just stay safe, friends!

Posted over 4 years ago Florida Board of Nursing lists full home/street address. North Carolina Board...lists my full first, middle, maiden, and last name. Additionally, if you do list your first and last name, it isn't a far stretch for someone to use the whitepages, unless you have an unlisted phone number. You wouldn't happen to be Major Ulmer, would You???

Posted over 4 years ago This is my point, do you really want ALL your personal info on the net for any screw ball (some on this very site) to know where you live? Be careful is right, people can try anything now a days. Be safe and careful A busy RN is here

Posted over 4 years ago Hey, I come to this forum for fun, camaraderie with other nurses. I just like to 'talk' with people who know what I mean by a statement like:, "he's got chronic pain, so It doesn't surprise me that he's grumpy." Or when we had our (sometimes rather heated) political disussions, someone who had the intelligence to know (because, as nurses, we need to be very intelligent" ) what we know, or have thought about things we have. About whether or not people who say they're real nurses: that isn't my concern. Actually, I don't see that it's anyboys concern as long as they're not hurting me or disrupting the 'fun-ness' of the board. We may have differing opinions, but we all have an opinion on things like illegal immigration (especially those of you from border states) or we all have ideas about which health care system will benefit the US of A in the long run. Not to be a curmudgeon, but there are only certain parts of my life that get sent over cyberspace. The government or other agencies can find out all they need to, but I'm not going to make it easy for them. Annie

| Posted over 4 years ago Oh, I am sure there are phonies on here, looking for a date, a nurse with a purse, etc. You never really know what's going on anywhere. I do, however, like to think most of us on here are on the up and up. I have made some great friends here. Some of us are just thinking about going to school for nursing, some (like me) are actively attending school to be an RN. Some are well-seasoned nurses, helping us make it to be a nurse. I am grateful for the seasoned mentors I have met on here, however I do keep an eye out for the fakes. I have come across some on here...................................... just be careful.
