I had to do a rotation at a nursing home...So the nurse asked me to do an accu check on so in so...Well you know all facilities have different needles as well as glucometers...Well when I went to stick the patient I had the needle upside down and I pricked myself.....

I hate to tell you this, but I work with a nurse who had one of our techs perform a finger stick on one of her patients.  The tech told the nurse that she was busy at that point, could the nurse do it herself.  The nurse told the tech, "If I knew how to do it I wouldn't be asking you."  I had my own two patients who both required fingersitcks, and I told the tech I would get the other nurses patient as well.  Don't think we didn't have a discussion about this later.  I finished my assessments and med deliveries and went back and ran the other nurse in my pod through the training to be able to do the point of care tests herself.  I explained that our techs were spread thin enough and didn't need to be baby sitting a needy nurse.  She needed to know how to do it anyway, if she was to know if it was being done correctly.
