Hello, am Chukky and I just joined this forum, and looking to get some real solid advice from members. I'm in the process of starting my nursing career, and i've been told to start at the LVN Level, and gradually move up from there. I really need to know what the steps are towards achieving these goals. I assume there are many qualified nurses out there who can advise on this? Look forward to some responses ASAP!

Have you started school yet?

The advantage to starting as an LVN / LPN is that you can then work, make decent money and gain experience while pursuing your RN license.

Many people would rather just go through RN school and get it done, which will result in a higher salary after graduation. There are 3 year, 4 year and 2 year programs. LPN's usually go to school for about one year.

Some prefer to stay LPN's... more nursing, less management and administration.

If I had it to do over again, I would just go through an R.N. program. Not sorry for taking the LPN program, but I just didn't know what I didn't know ...whatever works best for your situation is what you should do, of course. If you can get in to an R.N. program, I'd say do that.
