Never heard of it, but I would LOVE it!

Think of all the mini-vacations you could take...

BTDT won't do it again.  You're so tired by the 7th day, it takes 3 days to recuperate.  Not to mention at times you're stuck because there isn't anyone to relieve you so you work overtime

I've never heard of this either, but I'd have to agree with dmazment. Working 7 days straight would just be too draining. Especially if it was 12 hour shifts. I'm not even sure it would be legal or safe  to work 7 straight days  on 12 hours shifts. Possibly 8 hours would be doable.

I agree with LawyerRN.............I'm thinking of Tunica, Biloxi <redneck Vegas for those who dont gamble>.........not to mention my mom owns a travel agency and I always have to say NO to all of her offers for fabulous FREE trips because of my workaholism tendancies. I'm also thinking of the family events I could get out of............I dont think my family could track me down...........because If I'm already commited to 7 straight days with 1 facility <I moonlight>, then with the moonlighting stint, not much extra time often as it is..........just think how hard it would be for me to be found with a job like this.   I'd feel like Jason Bourn but redneck, ponytail and stethescope tied permanently around my neck.    I hate my extra time off as it is now except what few minutes I can lock my husband up occasionally for few minutes at a time.  Then 'poof' back to work.  Working is my only legal way to get out of social crap I dont enjoy anyhow.  I could care less about 7 straight days without a day off except the quality time with my precious doggies, Fred and Sampson.  My husband is different.........he loves me working lots <he respects me being a workaholic>.  Its a 'holic' where you make money without pickling your liver.  id definately go for it if offered.

These are 10 hour shifts  and you're still so tired you can't stand it, physically and emotionally

When I worked in WA we did 7-70s, we worked 7- 10 hour shifts and paid for 80hrs. I liked having the time off. Don't know if I could do it at my current age, I've turned into a bit of a woosey. I have trouble doing 4- 12s. I like creative staffing, makes life better.

This is an unsafe practice.

I have worked where people worked these shifts, and let me tell you they were mean, neglected their patients and made many mistakes. I hated working with them!!!!

Yes, they may have recieved 7 days off but they needed every bit of it just to recuperate. They bring a unit down... Just my opinion from seeing it first hand....I would NOT want anyone working seven straight days to take care of me, would you???

I WENT TO SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND CAPITAL UNIVERSITY IN THE LATE 1980'S AND EARLY 1990'S. LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU FELLOW NURSING STUDENTS.

JUDLEERN:  I think it depends.  If people work that much because they HAVE to for whatever purpose and they are resentful, dont pace themselves, dont eat right, neglect themselves., living on caffiene to even show up for work..........it would be dangerous.  For those who thrive on this pace, I dont see anything wrong with it as long as their body can stand up to it, as well as nerves.  Honestly, I have been working like this for years in a  way.  i have never had an assigned 7 day on/7 day off position........but I have worked 2 jobs, at least since 1993.  During the month of June, I had 2 days off...........I didnt realize it til July, lol.  My husband recently made me stop my second job and im meaner now than when I worked that much.   i'm bloated and have to spend more time with my mother.  I want my 2nd job back or a 7 day on /7 day off gig...........then look for something else to do those other 7 days.

Per the Urban dictionary...

1. woosy

wimp/pussy. simply combine the two words for woosy.
