I'm going to be starting school in the spring.  I'm getting my CNA first and then I'm not sure what path I'll take from there (ie. LPN, RN, etc.).  I really want to work in prenatal care and didn't know what options there were in that area.  I'm the kind of person who tries to get as much info as possible, so any and all advice would be apprectiated.  I've been trying to do searches on this, but haven't come up with much.  What training will I need (besides just getting a nursing license)?  Any additional courses I'll need to take?

Thanks

Christine

It depends on where you want to work. At our local hospital, there are no LPN's on the Labor/Delivery/Newborn Nursery, but there are some one the post-partum unit. If you want to work in a doctro's office then a LPN will be fine. As for extra training, usually the facitlity where you are employed will offer the training.

For prenatal care, I would recommend getting your CMA.  There is always a demand.  I have mine (I am a senior nursing student right now) but you could get a job as a CMA in an OB office.  RN's deal with more of the L&D, postnatal and newborn care.
