Specialization and travel nursing?

Posted over 4 years ago First off I'm not quite sure if this thread belongs in this discussion. If it doesn't my sincerest apologies. I am hoping to become a Nurse Practitioner-Family Practice. Is it possible to be what I want and still travel? I know RNs can apply and start traveling around the U.S. but I wasn't sure if Nurse Practitioners could or not since they are specialized. If you don't know an answer but could point me in the direction of an answer I would be very glad. Feel free to send me mail or post here. Thank you for your time. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I have recently been toying with the idea of travel nursing, actually fantasizing! Is it really as cool as it seems to be from the literature and online info? I'm a creature of habit and wanting to try this. Is being an agency nurse as hard has I've heard? Like does staffing at the facility bomb the agency nurse with more patients and the crappy ones because they might resent the agency nurse for $$$? The money sounds great and the benefits too. I've also heard that you could take a travel assignment and it be close to home with a 12 week contract or something like that. From what I could gather with the info at hand, if you get an assignment at least 50 miles away, you get a tax free housing stipend..................here goes that old saying: If it sounds too good to be true, its not. i do love my job, but.........just feeling 'penned in'. Anybody else out there like that? I guess this is off topic............and I wish I had the NP thing now <future goal>........actually PA. Just dont know about travel and very curious. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

| Posted over 4 years ago angie I traveled for ten years but finally got tired of it. Had a few bad experiences, but mostly great ones. Yes it's true, if you get an assignment more than 50 miles from your home you get a tax free stipend. If you're less than 50 miles, you still receive a housing stipend but it's taxed, those are government rules. The benefits you receive depend on which travel company you go with. Agency nursing this depends on the facility, who the charge person doing the assignment is and what their personal feelings are. When I was a charge nurse, I so appreciated someone coming in, I certainly didn't burden them with the most or worst assignments, because I wanted them to come back and work when we needed them. if you have more questions email and I'll try to answer them |

| Posted about 2 years ago Nurse Practitioners - Family Practice are also one of the specializations that are in great demand by facilities, and hence such a nurse can accept travel assignments. Lucrative ones at that too.
Hope this helps, Shabbir Kagalwala
