Posted over 4 years ago This year a famous comedian name Berni Mac, died. I read in my Medical dictionary, that this disorder which may affect any part of the body, but most frequently involving the lymph nodes, liver, spleen, lungs, skin, eyes, and small bones of the hands and feet. Sarcoidosis was in Berni Mac's lungs, and was in remission for years. Even though he died from pneumonia, Sarcoidosis, might have played a key factor. Berni Mac's wife, and other donators are searching for the cure for this disease, to find out why does it attack this vital organs, and limbs on the human body. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health. |

| Posted over 4 years ago It was sad to hear that Bernie Mac passed away. I saw his act live a couple of times, and he was great. My heart goes out to his family. My understanding of his situation is that the sarcoidosis left scar tissue on his lungs. Even though the sarcoidosis its self was in remission, scarring of the lungs is not reversible. When a patient like that contracts pneumonia, gas exchange in the lungs is compromised. Things can snowball in a bad way for these patients. It is not unlike any other condition that affects the lungs. Even patients with no underlying lung conditions can die from pneumonia, so if they already have a strike against them the battle is all uphill. Even with understanding the process, it does not make it less sad. Walt |

| Posted over 4 years ago Yes, my neighbor has it. It's a nasty disease that is treated much the same way as cancer. In the case of my neighbor, her lungs aren't being attacked nearly as badly as her spine. She has irreparable damage and constant pain requiring drugs like Oxycontin and other treatments like a TENS machine. She also has a hard time eating (not related to chemo, she's been off of that for over a year) as food makes her nauseated and frequently gives her stomach pain and diarrhea. She is usually pretty weak and tired but can't sleep due to pain and nausea, even with drugs. It's definitely not a good way to live. |
