Posted over 4 years ago I was employed at a facility very briefly, one of the MDs that works there HATED me, he ran to the office every time I took a breath. I have since been searching for a job, i have applied EVERY were, I even started applying at shopping stores and fast food places. I have NEVER had a tough time finding a job in the past, I have WONDERFUL refrences and long letters from other Drs I have worked with. I am a little concerned about all this If someone could please give me some advise I would greatly appreciate it. Is there any way to find out if you are being black balled or what? I did not use this position as a reference because I was still with in my probationary time and I knew if he had any say I would never get a job again. Please advise Monica |

Posted over 4 years ago Check what your state laws are regarding reference checks with previous employers. In Indiana, they are allowed to give out only dates of service, nothing more.Ask for a copy of your reference from the company, or talk to human resources, ask what info they gave out, are you a do not rehire at your old place of business?Good luck in your job search!!

Posted over 4 years ago It could be the crappy economy. I know a few allied health care workers, through no fault of their own who are having tough times getting jobs. You're more likely to get a job in health care than grocery stores!

Posted over 4 years ago I know how you feel when it comes to being black balled. I was black balled, at least I think I was, by an old job and it took going back to my old job before that in order to work. Do what the member "Pezzy" said and keep on keeping on. Good luck!

Posted over 4 years ago Moni Ann I am with you....I lost my job back in August and it has been difficult to find another. I also have excellent references from Doc and the nurses I worked with. Unfortunately for me the Practice manager was the one I had an issue with and while there are laws regarding what they can legally say to other prospective employers..there is also no real way of knowing what is being said between two people in private. Hang in there...I will find a new job and you will too....dont give up and be persistent :) speak your mind..for those that matter dont mind and those that mind ..dont matter..

Posted over 4 years ago I am so sorry this is happening to you. I have no idea how to check if your black balled. Have you called HR at the facility to see if you can meet with them about it? Check your employee handbook and see what their pollicy is about checking your employee file. Lots of them will let you review your file as long as your in the presence of an HR person, but you cant xeroxx it..............however, at my facility, you cant xerox it, but you can TAKE NOTES as to what supervisor said what in a personnel eval. Man, Id go and take notes, write all the names down who did your evals. That xerox rule, like I said is at my facility............however for every eval I've had done, they always give me a copy. I have a notebook where I have all my performance evals that were signed by both me and the rating supervisor. Kind of cool when you have that ammo. You may have not done anything wrong at all and it could just be the economy. Perk up, think positive and do your research! I hope everything works out for you. Oh, another thing, when prospective eployers call to check references, if they are swamped they dont speak to each and every reference you listed.............the main thing they asked is 'is this person eligable for rehire?". Kind of scary to think they might do a half ass background check. I once had a coworker who was a brilliant nurse, she had turrets. Now I loved working with her, especially on night shift........NOBODY would get sleepy. When she went into a patients room, she introduced herself with her name, and said..........look, I have turrets so dont be offended if I have a spell. This is a true story! Eventually, they put her in the telemetry closet............that chick coulld spot everything on a monitor. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie

Posted over 4 years ago Being black balled is a reality and does happen in the medical field. A way it can be done is through you references. True enough there are laws to deter this, however; they get around the law with one question: Is this person eligible for rehire? If the reference says no you have been black-balled. Try getting references on paper from peoplewho you are sure will give you a favorable review. Choose careful! because sometimes they will pretend that things are a-okay! Finally pray before submitting you application and ask God for favor! This has worked for me many times
