I have an interview for a RN position in a few days.  I haven't had a formal interview in over 15 years. Do I need to wear a blazer? I have some nice trousers and a simple button-down shirt. Oh, and the shirt is dark red. Should I get something more neutral?  Is that important? Would red (not bright, dark) send a message I don't want to send? Please advise :-)

The one thing they will look at is your nails.  No polish, artificial nails, but do have short, well filed and clean nails.  As long as you're in nice slacks, shirt is clean and pressed, a blazer isn't needed.  Nice shoes, etc.  Sounds like you're right on target to me.

In an interview your attire plays a supporting role. Your attire should be noticed as being appropriate and well-fitting, but it should not take center stage.  A coordinated blouse, conservative shoes are safe.Carefully inspect clothes for tags, dangling threads, etc. Also limited jewelry (no dangling earrings or arms full of bracelets) professional hairstyle, light make up and perfume is okay. Everything should be clean and well pressed.

Remember, you are marketing a product -- yourself -- to a potential employer, and the first thing the employer sees when greeting you is your attire; thus, you must make every effort to have the proper dress,it will give you a competitive edge and a positive first impression.

Is even clear or very light (like the french manicure type) polish out? My nails really look better with it than without.

All polish is out.  We as nurses need to present ourselves as if we could walk out of the interview, don scrubs etc and be ready to function professionally.  Nail polish is absolutely out, even a french manicure
