To those of you discouraged in your career as a nurse, maybe you need some inspiration. One of our own here on NL was recently accepted in to a Doctor of Nursing program. I will not call her out and embarass her, but this is so HUGE. Just shows you what hard work can accomplish.

She has been where you are, and is blazing new trails. So don't give up. The sky is the limit. Maybe right now it is hard for you to see around the corner, but just keep working away.

"Doctor of Nursing"?  What the hell is that? & why would it necessarily inspire me?

Well it inspires me, and I think it deserves an applause...admirable to know one of our own is going farther with their education.

This is for advanced practice nursing and may not inspire those that are not quite aware of what it involves!

I know who we are speaking about and I'm proud of them. This person inspires me in my studies as a nursing student.

I wish them well and all you others should too. Lets not put people down for their accomplishments. Lets face facts, having that degree is truly impressive, so wake up! Getting into a Doctor of Nursing program must be extremely tough.

Good luck "my friend". lol

One reason for ispiration could be um..........................a pay raise?  Promotion?  Respect in the Medical Field?  Huge knowledge base of nursing?

Many different types of employment opportunities exist for graduates of DNP programs. Nationally there are 20 existing practice doctoral programs in nursing, however, a recent survey conducted in February 2006 by AACN revealed that 190 institutions are developing DNP programs.

Graduates of DNP programs are assuming positions with the following job titles: Vice President for Nursing and Clinical Services, Program Director, Vice President for Patient Care, Chief Executive Officer, Health Officer, Commissioner of Health, Quality Improvement Director, Clinical Information Technology Specialist, Direct Care Clinician, and Faculty Member. It is expected that graduates of the ___'s DNP program will assume a variety of high level responsible positions in health care as well. A recent survey revealed the following projected job openings for DNP graduates.

I raise my glass of Merlot to toast a most deserving person, and to toast a life devoted to the art of nursing.
