I am wanting to do some travel nursing soon. But I only have about 1 year experience between being a med-surg nurse off and on. I have been an ADON in a nursing home for the past 2 years but am desiring a change. I really don't want to start over so to speak with getting a 12 hour shift job. Does any one know of a traveling company that hires new (so to speak) nurses without a whole lot of experience? Also, are there any nurses that are or have transitioned into traveling? How was your 1st experience?

Most traveling nurses have to have at least 1 year steady  current med surg experience. I suggest you get more med surg experience under your belt before a traveling assignment. When you take a travel assignment, you get a quick orientation, overview of facility. They expect experienced nurses that can jump in and do a  great job.It is imperative you have your skills and experience to do that.Good luck!!
