Here's the info. on this Senate Bill ---- Not sure IF it ONLY applies to Tx... Not sure HOW Tx - contract employees or 'Nurses' are affected by this.... I'M EAGER to find anyone's comments on this who does truly understand this bill & How it affects Correctional Nurses... I don't see HOW, due to the fact it is a Senate Bill/Law.... this is NOT a company policy, so why shouldn't this also apply to Correctional Nurses, but yet we are NOT receiving Hazardous Duty Pay & do not understand why not???
Correctional Nurses face the "same" hazards as does a Correctional Officer.... We, Correctional Nurses, are in "direct contact with Inmate's without safety barrier devices" so, Does ANYONE understand why we are NOT compensated for this??? Here's the Info. I found:

Changes to hazardous duty pay
Senate Bill (SB) 737 and HB 2498 make changes to the maximum amount and calculation of hazardous duty pay in the Government Code.

SB 737 removes the $300 per month limitation on the maximum amount of hazardous duty pay that can be paid to an employee in a hazardous duty position.

HB 2498 also removes the $300 per month limitation on the maximum amount of hazardous duty pay that can be paid to an employee in a hazardous duty position. This bill also adds a new provision for hazardous duty pay for correctional officers of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice that sets a:

new rate of pay at $12 per month for each year of hazardous duty service and
limit on the amount of hazardous duty pay of no more than $300 per month for these employees.
****Does any other State, Correctional Nurse, receive Hazardous Duty Pay??? Or for the State of Tx If you are a Correctional Nurse, are you receiving Hazardous Duty Pay??? If so - How? Directly employeed through T.D.C.J.???

First  Thanks for the Invite to this site !!

I am in Arkansas and work for CMS that is contracted to Arkansas Dept. Of Corrections and there is no hazardous duty pay here...not for us or the officers.

Where do the Tx. prisons hire their nurses from?? I am orgianlly from Tx. and we have talked about moving back one day. I really like working in the corrections setting and would like to continue if we return to Tx.
