Maybe I'm missing something...........but your best friend's mom 'came to america with no money and had to beg for a scholarship?"  Maybe this is off topic, however, this posting is a tad bit off topic.  Where does it say that  your friends mom has a right to a free ride on a scholarship, has kids, worried because she also has a  kid old enough to go to college <or will soon>?   Those scholarships need to go to Americans, and her daughter needs to look for a job if she cant afford school, and not burden our schools and taxpayers.  If your friends mom gets 'pissed', maybe she should go back to her homeland if she has no luck with finding a job here in the USA, Americans have more of a right to that job than a foreign born person without being a citizen.

If I see anybody on my unit passing scabies or anything else because they are horrible workers, they will be reported to infection control, admin, and HR.      If I have totally gotten your point wrong, then my apologies.

No no no, I’m not saying any of that, what I’m just trying to get across is that some people bust their ass off and end up getting nothing out of it and yes my best friend’s mom became a U.S. citizen, and yes scholarships, jobs and ect. should be going to U.S. citizen and foreigners who become U.S. citizens.  but in a sense I kind of disagree with you, I believe that the type of people who deserve the scholarships the most are determined, motivated and hard working people, regardless if they are a foreigner. Because like emtpixie said, isn’t this America, people come over here to live the American dream and who are we to deny them their dream just because they are more determined than us, aren’t we a country based on immigrants. But I do agree with the fact that Americans should in fact be placed first among non Americans citizens, And it retarded that you guys are being replaced just because they cheaper, but it’s not right to say that she should go back to her own country, I mean who are we to judge we don’t understand their situation we don’t know what it’s like, they came here for a reason.............yes this topic is getting off of the true matter but it’s an important issue nonetheless. well i my opinion it is

I have been a CNA for almost 10 years, and for the most, it is good and bad nurses in every ethnic group. I do agree with Filipinos nurses being dependable, and hard working, but their wages are cheap. This happened to me last night on my homecare assignment. My homecare agency charges $400 a day for two caregivers. A Filipino homecare agency charges $150 a day, for one  live in person. Now, who will turn that down. I am out of work next week, because I am being replaced. It is not fair. That was a  (4) 12 hour shift, in one week, now that is truly taking the food away from my children mouths. I am with everyone who said grants, scholorships, and loans should be given to the American people first, and jobs. This is not just a RN thing, it is a caregiver thing.

i am sorry to hear about that, cuttie. but filipino nurses are just doing their jobs, like you, they also have families to feed, children to send to school and bills to pay. i agree with you, of course americans should be the priority here, but on the other hand, we  cannot also blame the agency or the hospital for getting nurses that charge lower pay, aside from it being cheaper, many attest to filipinos being hard working people and dependable as you have mentioned before. it is not a battle between who is better than the other, but who could provide the best care to the patient-whatever  race we belong, we are all caregivers and doing our job right and compassionately, that matters.

regarding the wages, i think it should be addressed properly, of course, it's no joke not getting the job because of some reasons, so something should be done about it to be fair to everybody.

i wish we could all work hand in hand to give our patients the best care they deserve, you said it yourself this is not just a RN thing, it is a caregiver thing.

It takes a servant's heart to be a nurse. If you have all the knowledge in the world and do not have a servant's heart you will not be the nurse you could be.

I'm glad she is now a citizen........was her daughter born here?   Why is there this attitude of "entitlement"?    If there is this entitlement, that entitlement needs to go to Americans.    Just because someone does make it to our shores, it should not immediatly entitle them to our priveledges when we've all been paying into the taxpayer system since our first job <in my case, its been 30 years>.     Personally, how can they feel right about taking away from Americans?

We only have one heart, take care of it!

thats very true and yes my friend was born here, i'm not saying anyone is titled to anything, i also agree that we should have the  priveledges first as americans, but if the roles were switch wouldn't we do the same thing, there're just trying to make a living and support thier families just like us.

Just to clear things up a little bit....I NEVER said  " people come over here to live the American dream and who are we to deny them their dream just because they are more determined than us, aren’t we a country based on immigrants". Immigrants are NOT necessarily more determined than natural-born American citizens. There are determined people and undetermined people no matter where you go. I am VERY determined and so far it hasn't gotten me where I want to be, but I'm going to keep at it until it does one way or another.  As for this country being based on immigrants, I didn't even imply that. But since you brought it up, if you want to be very truthful about things, this country is based on the fact that it was robbed from the Native Americans (as the term "native" implies). Technically any of us who aren't Native Americans are immigrants.

I just saw dancing with wolves yesterday, starring Kevin Kusner.  I felt for the SUIX indian tribe

Thank you cuttie for diffusing that moment lol, ok let’s just end this controversial discussion, we all have different views on this and lets just leave it at that. Let’s just get back to the main topic of horrible nurses and what we should do to stop this rising epidemic, and share with us your experiences on that topic or your ideason what we should do.

I wasn't aware that there was a moment to diffuse. I was just setting the record straight about what I actually said vs. the words you tried to put in my mouth. Sorry if you were confused over that. As for the original topic, I did comment on that in my first post to this topic. Cuttie, you bring up a good point about the Sioux. Unfortunately Dances with Wolves parallels reality in many ways. Not only with the Sioux, but Native Americans in general.

As an employee, you r part of the problem if you allow these things to continue. As a health care provider it is everyone's job to insure the safety of the patients. If you want to remain anonymous there are many ways of reporting or bringing something to someone's attention and remaining anonymous. Change comes from people who do something about it not just wine.

I have to agree Porfirio. You may not think it matters ,but if you as an advocate for your pt. does not speak up, then who will?I had a pt last week who had a stress test that was delayed and she was NPO til 2pm that afternoon. I promised her that as soon as she got back, I'd get her a tray. The unit secretary had just arrived to the unit for work, when my pt was being wheeled back to her room from her test. I asked the secretary to please put a request for a tray from dietary. The us replied"Wait, I'm checking my e-mail right now, its going to be a couple of minutes." Seriously? I meam how would she like to starve all day and have someone tell her that? I reported her to the unit manager.I'm an agency nurse and wasn't sure if telling her off would have been appropriate, but I did report her. Sad part is , I heard this girl is in nursing school.
