I think he has done great things to unite the country in a turbulent time. No matter what may come of the presidency, I think many of us are filled with a hope that we've never known before.

I'm amazed people still take emails as truth and factual information, hear only what they want to hear, make assumptions and refuse to give others a chance.

Well, Obama wants to give Americans tax payer money to foreign countries for abortions, family planning, etc.............  Id rather our taxes go to increase unemployment benefits for Americans, and even chip in  a few bucks for repair to Gaza than the abortion bill for assistance to abortion in foreign countries.  They say family planning too...........no problem with family planning.........just picking up the tab for foreigners who want abortions.   Boo, on this issue, it stinks.  Good post, but this is such a wrong way to spend our money.   Why cant we drop cases of condoms over these countries?  Angie

Though I don't agree with the full text of the response I chose, I can say that I believe our country is changing already for the better.  I hope it will last, but I seem to detect a little bit more compassion and maybe a little bit more hope as I go along my daily business and interactions with people.  There seems to be a certain spirit of togetherness in general, though the nay-sayers are still out there, still about their business of negativity and grim-reaper style of antics and philosophy.  Hard to believe 1.5 million people can gather in the heart of DC without the first arrest;  this fact alone astounded me.  To witness video of people of all colors and backgrounds gathering to witness a truly historic event midst such joy, peace, hope, and togetherness was marvelous beyond words.  But the President's speech aroused me and inspired me, my family included.  Notwithstanding and maybe because of the current economic crisis, he called on Americans to once again get about the business of making this country great again, of the importance of service to our country, in whatever way or shape.  I loved his address, felt it spoke to our hearts as Americans.  He called upon the spirit that has uplifted so many Americans in the past and in the current day to make this country great and meaningful, that spirit that has led us to duty and service.

I think America is slowly but surely changing for the better already, in almost intangible ways.  We're not there yet, but I do feel we're not as divisive, not as negative and fearful in general as we once were.  Maybe some of us have the audacity of hope?

And I, too, love the image of the First Family.  It really warms my heart to witness their maternal and paternal instincts at work in small ways.  Like when Sasha was walking with her dad and Malia with her mom on the way to the Capitol, a better picture could not be had.  That little girl was so proud of her daddy, and so proud to be in his hands literally, she had that certain swagger in her step that nothing could ever be any better, that she felt so safe and secure to be with him.  And Mom was just a step behind, assuring that Malia kept that cellphone in check I'm sure (lol), the real backbone of the family, the essence of grace and femininity... What a strong image for all families as our First Family.

I know it's become hackneyed by now, but I can't help but repeat it.  When I was pregnant with my daughter some 31 years ago, I used to rub my belly and tell her, "You can do anything you want to do.  You can be anyone you want to be."   As she grew into a beautiful little princess, I'd tell her that every night, from the nights she fell asleep in her crib as I'd stroke her into dreamland to that age when you can't tell them anything anymore.  (lol)  My parents had instilled that belief in me, but my mantra made it more graphic to us.  Somehow, it just seemed like a bunch of words, but I believed in them.  And to see this humble man of humble beginnings rise to the highest office of our land gives these words credence, at long last.  (Makes me wish I'd done more with my student loans, like Barack and Michelle.  I'd wanted to go to Columbia/Barnard College back then, or Duke at least.  What if I'd had the audacity of hope back then?  Nonetheless, I'm proud of my own accomplishments and those of our family's.)  What this means for black America, how his Presidency can change and is changing black America (and thus our country as a whole) is the topic of a book entirely.  I want to thank others who have cited concrete examples, but I couldn't help but notice and speak to those intangible, dare I say spiritual (not religious) ways in which his Presidency has impacted us and will continue to do so, for the better.

Sorry, I just keep hearing how things are getting worse. If the economy is to benefit from any stimulus packages why not from the first windfall of 7 billion? The Dow dipped on inauguration day. Coincidence? I think not. If Wall Street thought this Presidency was a blessing, don't you think they would have shown that on the day of swearing in?

I personally think a Democartic Congress that loves to spend, and a Democratic President, are a bad combination for the taxpayers. Who 's gonna keep footing all these stimulus packages? You and me that's who. That is if you work and pay taxes. I already have $200.00 per week taken out of my check. That's $800.00 per month. That's alot of dough that I bust my ass off to give away. I already have physical pian from the toll nursing has taken on my body, now my wallet, and my spirit will feel it too I guess. Can't wait to see how much more I'll be giving away to save the Democrtas who started this to begin with. George Bush can only be blamed for so long. At some point ( I give it a year) those DIMS will have to take responsibility, somehow I don't see it happening.

Oh, and when medicine becomes socilaized(which it will) Nursing is really gonna suck.

The news has been saying how many billions of this money is going to stupid stuff "golf course repair", salmon farms, etc............how many jobs will that make?   My guess is less than 20 jobs, if that.  This is our taxes.

In his campaign he said the middle class will see 'no increase in taxes at all........there will even be a reduction".   I hope somebody will clear this up for me, but part of his tax proposal is that we will be unable to deduct charitable donations on our taxes and the interest on our mortage...........this is a question of mine, not a statement of fact.  I am hoping somebody knows the true answer to this and let me know.   Alot of the people I work with have said they have called and did the paperwork at HR to stop payment to the United Way because of this.   I hope they researched it before they made this decision.   If its true...........I'll be making my phone call as well, sorry to say.

Well we found out that we will have the pleasure of paying MORE taxes this next year and we will NOT be getting as stimulus check, I think the amount of income considering people to be "rich" should be 400,000 not 250,000. Lets face it loosing 49% to taxes 250,000 is really only 125,000. With mortgages and kids in school and college, HELLO! It is ALL gone! We do not have money to burn to keep our feet warm yet we are considered upper class for more taxes, this is just wrong on so many levels. Now we get the amount we can write off for our kids reduced, how is THAT helping anyone but the government?

President Obama has been in office for 43 days, for some it's 44 days since I live on the west coast.  He was handed a horrible mess and it took 8 years maybe more to get where the USA is today.  You really think 44 days is enough to turn this country around?  Much of this mess is because people have been relying on credit for far to long.  We are a nation with the  I want, I buy, not I need, I save up and buy.

When the economy is good , vote for a democrat because they love to spend money.  When the economy is bad, vote for a republican because they always  cut back on spending.  We have a bad economy with a democratic president and democratic congress.  This means the people with jobs like nurses right now will be paying alot of taxes to keep every body else and every thing else afloat.  I'm an independent and very worried.

I don't know if you can really go by that theory. We had a budget surplus at the end of Clintons term and Bush brought it back into a deficit due to his spending. That's not what "conservative" is supposed to mean.

I don't know any nurses who make more than $250k per year, so most likely the taxes won't be going up for nurses.

I do not agree with everything Obama is doing, I am pro-life, so I don't agree with the abortion thing at all, but when I took a look at what Republicans have done and compared it to Democrats, I agreed with voting for Obama more. However, I do think Obama is really trying to do too much too fast and he needs to slow down with the spending. There are a few things in his budget plan that I do not agree with, such as lowering the deductions for charitable donations and the carbon emissions tax (that will just make our utilities go up)...I'm hoping and praying for him to make the right decisions and that this country gets back on it's feet again.

Now if Ron Paul would have been the choice for Republican candidate, I would have voted for him. Because he is the only one out there who is actually a TRUE REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE. All the rest are fakes. They don't care about conserving money anymore than the Democrats. In fact, all I've seen from them is there complete and utter devotion to the big money making corporations. We need change in this country and I don't think any of the Republican or Democrat politicians out there will bring it. (Besides Ron Paul of course)

MAMADAWN, I can tell you how Obama feels about the murder of babies...he's all for it!  He voted against the live birth abortion ban 4 times....after he lied the first 3 times and said he would vote it in if the verbage were changed to match that of the federal bill.  This man has no moral conscience when it comes to the lives of the unborn.  He supports FOCA, which will open doors for thousands of females to obtain abortions for ANY reason or who normally may need parental consent, etc....His own wife sent out a letter to Obama supporters when he was running for his senate seat which mocked the procedure of partial birth abortion....sucking the brains of a live child out of their skull....these people make me sick to my stomach.  Who on earth ever developed any of these procedures?  Who on earth was the first to support them?  I often wonder...when was the last time Obama ever viewed photos of aborted babies, first, second or third trimester?  When did he ever see their tiny legs ripped from their torsos during a first trimester abortion? Their helpless bodies mutilated and mangled while they struggle to survive (because even in utero, we have a will to live) during a second trimester suction abortion? Their faces nearly burned beyond recognition during a third trimester saline abortion?  When was the last time he actually viewed an abortion or witnessed the physical and emotional aftermath?  Probably never, because like most people who beleive it's a females "choice", it's easier to turn away and remain ignorant than to face it head on and accept it for what it is....murder.  Obama may be the President of the United States, but he certainly is not my president.

Here! Here!. I ahve to agree with you Aisha. Of course, we always agree.

As for everyone focusing on that $250,000 mark, don't get too cozy, as less money is made,(and right now that is occuring) the ceiling will drop and I fear an income of $145,000/yr will become quite appealing to the taxman. Unfortunately, my spouse and I's combined income comes closer to that range. No, I don't feel smug and safe. I fear I too, will be taxed heavily. It's closer than we think. Don't let that $250,000 lull you into a sense of security.

What really enrages me is that I literally work my ass off for the money I get. I'm 45 years old doing agency, which usually entails getting hard assignments and a heavy pt load. I promise, I earn my pay through hrad work and physical exhaustion. Why do I have to give half my pay to anyone. I work hard. Shouldn't that be rewarded?

ok, AIG is lawyering up so they get that golden parahute payoff for the ceo's.   I'll bet they get Obama go back on yet another promise he made a while ago and write out those multimillion dollar checks to those parasites.   So there will have to be another bailout to cover whose golden parachutes.   Anybody seen in the news where Americans all over the country are to redoing the Boston Teaparty for this time and age.  In protest to tyrranny..............increased taxes without representation.   The only change I"m seeing thus far..........hopefully, things will change..............but the only change I see are the changes that help the corrupt politicians.   Why is he having such a hard time staffing his cabiniet?   He cant get them approved and they quit before the congress acquisition can call them on tax evasion.

Obama has gone back on his promise not to hand out money for stupid crap like research on why pigs or boars or whatever smell

2. research on grapes???  3.  building a new train to Las Vegas from somewhere I can't recall...it is just stupid!

3. giving everyone in congress a 4,000 dollar raise

4. You can go to Foxnews.com to find out all the other stupid crap our President is doing.

Research on grapes will help the economy.  A large portion of income of some states is from the production of wine, the research is to have a stronger grape vine, diseases of grapes etc.  It's a valid research.  The others I simply can't find at the moment.

I am usually not one to step my foot into this political arena on here but, the research on grapes will actually help increase productivity at the wineries where there are NUMEROUS people in our community employed. I do agree though that some of the "ear marks" are a little questionable.

Building a train will create jobs as well...Isn't that a part of the infrastructure that Obama planned to put into the stimulous bill? Finding ways to create jobs. So that's not such a bad idea if it will give people jobs. Now we just have to make sure they hire Americans to do it and don't go for the cheap labor.

Thanks for brining those important points to light, dmazement, Shan, and Katy. It's important to remember that research jobs are jobs, too. The new train will not only create temporary and permanent jobs, it will also expand the reach of where people can work.

Not really sure about the $4000 raise....Can't seem to find that info anywhere.

Madwoman, some people on here think fox news is unreliable. Apparantly, Denial aint just a river in Egypt. That's some powerful Kool-aid! The majority of the media is in the tank for Obama, so if anyone dares to critisize him, they are immediately reviled in the press. I think CNBC has been having some issues as of late with this. Jim Kramer, the financial advisor on CNBC said the stimulis spending was a mistake, so ergo he's a bad man.

Oh, and lets not forget the constant drubbing the Republican party is getting. I think Letterman jokes nightly about Rush Limbaugh being the new face of the party. He claims thta Obama is so squeky clean(yeah right) that he has no jokes to tell about him. Again, mesmerized and bedazzled.....unbelieveable! Oh, and scary.

kayty...............I was thinking that budget surplus when Clinton was in office before Bush took over.............think of when Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac got 'big' with giving mortages to non qualified buyers took place When Clinton was in office............then right after he left bang.....9'11 when Bush was in office then.    I'm too tired to look up the dates.......but I sure will.    Check out the news item on Barny Frank I put in a few days ago.  I bet  Senator Dodd was also in on that deal in some way.  I wish I could pull up the dates on all of them but I do know these jerks are dems.   There is no way anbody taking over after Clinton left will do well due to the mess he left ............... and nobody knew it was a mess back then until a decade or so late.
