Posted over 4 years ago I recently was let go of my job in Med-Surg after 4 months. I am now looking for work but I'm not sure where to go. I know there is a supposed nursing shortage, but I haven't seen it. So what state is the most desperate for nurses and has the worst shortage? I need to find a job. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Gosh, sorry to hear about it. Scary these days. I hate to ask the circumstances because I know its probably personal. My advice would be to get back to the job search. Be honest in applications as well; alot of places have agencies do this search thing where they know everybody you ever worked for since conception, and you have to sign a permission form to access your info. When you fill out applications, I wouldnt leave out anything........they ususally have spaces for explaining stuff. Good luck. Maybe you could try agency work. I use to do alot of Agency word for extra money.........it was great back before I got married, I just told them the weekends I was available and told them which hospital I would go to. I actually miss agency work because of that........being foot loose and fancy free! Crap, now I have a ball and chain both at home and when I clock in. We only have one heart, take care of it! | Posted over 4 years ago Hello! I am so sorry to hear about your layoff, there is so much of that these days. Since you are willing to relocate for work that will help you allot. The "National Council of State Boards of Nursing" allows you to check the status of the nursing shortage per state so you might want to check it out. I do know from doing my own job search that several places are hiring nurses in med/surg - I was looking for work in Chicago and found that Rush University Medical Center was hiring so applied for a position. I went back and checked out their med/surg careers when I saw your post and they do have openings for med/surg careers if you want to check out the jobs for yourself. Good Luck! |

| Posted about 4 years ago It is difficult to answer since the details of why you were dismissed are not mentioned. I would advise you to take a look at your performance on your last job. What did you like about it? What did you dislike? Where and when did it go south? Doing this may help you to know where to go. Employers are not permitted to share any information other than start and stop dates. The details can not be revealed. If you have supervisors who would be willing to be your professional references, that is great. Obtain their contact information. I will share some information that I have gained in my role as mentor. Employee A wanted to transfer to the ER. That nurse was noted to be physically rough with women and children. This was consistent. I did not reccomend that nurse for the ER. My decision was not accepted and Nurse A worked in the ER until the night he slapped a pregnant female patient!!! Nurse B made a serious medication error. The error caused hypotension, required a fluid challenge and a transfer to the critical care unit. Nurse B showed no remorse whatsoever. Never even asked if the patient was OK. When completing the incident report, nurse B shared a great difficulty concentrating on patient needs due to constant interruptions. Nurse B was very intelligent. My reccomendation was for an immediate transfer to the OR! Why? Because all medications are given by anesthesia, and the patients are asleep and there is hardly ever interaction with the patients. That person is now the private scrub for a neurosurgeon. So, do think about what happend and try to learn from it. Sometimes a change in geograpy is a good one.

| Posted about 4 years ago Hoping that you have already found another job, but if not my room mate is looking too and applied for a couple of Nursing Jobs at Advocate Health Care, she said they had a few openings if you want to check for yourself.
