I lived  in Florida and have been unemployed since May they say there is a Nursing shortage here but they are not hiring LPNs in Hospital. So I know how everyone feels no work here either. The hospitals also have a hiring freeze on also. I am trying to get my RN because every hospital I go to say they are only hiring "RN"s .

What an irony! I can't blame the hospitals... The economy now is really down... Even though there's a shortage, they just can't seem to hire a lot of health care professionals to pay for. Good luck with your goal on becoming an RN. I hope you'll find a job soon as well! Just don't give up! God will provide!

This is just an idea, but what about looking for a job in a long term care facility. They say that Florida is "G-d's waiting room."

Best of luck finding a job soon!

This has been a problem for LPNs for years. Part of the problem is a result of students not checking on the jobs that will be there for them when they graduate before enrolling in school and the other part of the problem is that the schools let prospective students down by failing to be upfront with what the employment opportunities really are for the LPN. I know I was surprised after graduating that working in a hospital for an LPN just was not going to happen. That was in the early 90s.
There a so many ways that the LPNs could be utilized in the hospital setting. Frankly, the RN program is not the best program for everyone who wants to be a nurse. We need the LPN program and we need LPNs in hospitals.
Check with the psych hospitals. Most psych hospitals know the value of an LPN

Hey I know I have been a LPN for 17 years , I started out in a hospital and trained alot of RN's it just upsets me that now they think I am not worthy to work there even with all my experience. I have worked everywhere in the hospital including the ICU Units. I have soooooo much to offer that it just really upsets me!!!!!!!!!

How about signing on with an agency? You would get experience in many different settings, and one of them may even offer you a job!?

There is also an option of traveling nursing too. Great opportunty to see the country on long term or short term assignments!
