My psych. is prescribing Topamax to me for PTSD and I did my usual of asking the side effects she mention loss of appetite and possible weight loss but nothing else.  Does anyone know of any good success stories on this?  Side effects she didn't mention?  Also, I forgot to ask her but does this help with depression as well?

They should have a section on this site about Topamax. I like this site because they will tell you "the good, the bad, and the ugly" about each medication. Also, it's not a manufacturer's site, so they're not trying to sell you the drug and will give you an unbiased opinion.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

My friend was on it and so was my dad. They both experienced WEIGHT LOSS and KIDNEY STONES.

I took it for about a month for migraines. I had severe mood swings and my friends, family, and random people on the street told me I was mean. Not to mention, it did nothing for my migraines. My husband was ready for divorce court if I had stayed on it another month!

Obviously, when you need medication, then take it with caution.  But remember, our bodies are not deficient in Topomax or any other drug.  I guess I think a bit differently, I truly believe that if you detox, eat right and take good prescription strenght vitamins, most of your problems will go away in time.  Mine did and I have test results to prove it.  If you are interested in hearing more e-mail me:  bkajdas@yahoo.com   We must take care of ourselves, God gave us life and it is our duty to take care of our bodies.  BK

weight loss when I took it...that was a good thing for me.  Not sure about kidney stones though.

J9177434 -

Topomax-  I have used it for years in order to treat chronic migraines.  It is typically prescribed for Epilepsy.  I have not seen it prescribed for PTSD though...

For me it has been a great medication because it has decreased my migraines when nothing else would.  It also decreased my appetite - made most foods taste funny, and smell different, so I was less inclined to eat them- therefore I lost weight (about 20lbs).  I am taking a high dosage though (300mg daily).

At first it gave me tingling in my hands and feet after I took the medication.   But this subsided after a while of taking the medication.

**Other than that, It makes me a bit emotional. So you may want to be aware of this.  If you are being treated for PTSD and this medication makes you overly emotional it might not be the right medication for you. **

I have read online some horror stories about this medication, but I have taken it for years and have never had any adverse reactions.

I hope this helps a little!

Good luck!
