Posted over 5 years ago I understand the material but have a hard time answering the questions. i alwasy can pick up the top two choices but get stuck trying to dtermine which is best fits the questions. I continued to get 78 on my test and needed a 80 therefore I failed the 1st 6 months of class. I have never worked so hard to fail. It was heartbreaking. Any advise for I don't want to give up. I decided to build up my skills to enroll into a LPN program which I have an 94 avg and than transition into the RN as a senior level since all the preq classes are done. |

Posted over 5 years ago nbkcl20: I think your plan is a good one. Through LPN school you will pick up alot that will help you when you enter the RN program. Then you'll be ahead of the game instead of behind. Some people are just not good test takers. My daughter is one. She can know all the information but when she goes to take a test, it all flies out of her head. Don't give up. You'll get it eventually. It just takes time and patience (and of course - hard work)

Posted over 5 years ago You might also want to try a Study Skills Workshop. I participated in one of these when I was completing my masters degree (in Finance), and it was helpful, even though I consider myself a 'good' test taker. I actually like preparing for my exams, and usually can't wait to take them, but I have friends who are quite the opposite, so I do understand. If you are unable to go to a workshop, there are tons of study test taking tips online. It is best to develop your test taking skills instead of trying to taking 'shortcuts'. You will have many exams to take before and after you become a nurse. You seem pretty smart, so I am sure you will have no problems...if you search for and apply the 'test taking' tips on the internet. If you can't find anything that works, let me know and I will help you.

Posted over 5 years ago I have trouble taking test also..when my daughter was still alive, she would quiz me all week before the test. The night before was just a quick review, if I didn't know it by then...sol.....I also have a "white board" that I do everything on to quiz myself..topic and answers....I also made flash cards and carried them with me everywhere, spare min and look at them. Make up study quides from lecture notes and make up a test from them..type them out and it kinda sticks in the brain...good luck....

Posted over 5 years ago The one thing that always worked for me was to write everything that I could think of on the back of the test before I started. Charts, lists, electrolytes etc. When I got to a question relating to them, just flip and check your list. The thing to learn the most is how to eliminate the extraneous information from the questions. Underline the important parts.

Posted over 5 years ago As npssavelives said, it is useful to approach multiple choice questions using a 'process of elimination' method. Simply place a line thru the answers that you KNOW are wrong, hence reducing your answer choices. It may (and usually does) come down to just two answers, which is where you draw from the material that you studied for the test. It is important not to panic at this stage - you are almost there!
