I feel that people sometimes treat nurses based on how they are treated by nurses.  In my own experience, I have come on a shift and get a report that a patient is uncooperative, abusive and a pain the neck.   When I take over the patient,  I try not to let this influence my approach to the patient and treat him with respect, dignity and attentiveness at the same time setting ground rules for the behavior in question.    I found most of the time I am treated well and with respect throughout my shift.

We are all human.  Treat others as you would want to be treated and I believe you will see a difference.  Let them see the light of caring in your eyes, your mannerisms, and communication.   People can pick up an energy, positive or negative.  Think about the energy you have, what are thinking?  LIfe is about gratitude and everyday I find five things to be grateful for in my life.  When I go to work, that gratitude stays with me and is seen in the eyes of patients.

I've been treated far better by 98% of my patients and their family members than I have been by many of my so called peer group.

I have to say, my patients with the exception a a very small few, are very respectful to me as a nurse. Some pt's do seem to think you are their handmaiden at their beck and call, but I just politely remind them that I have other patients and will do my best to help.

I do advocate for my patients all the time, and the majority of them see that and appreciate it.

Most of the time pt.'s treat you as you treat them you know the old saying "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" respect is the key. but I do have to say some do think they are at the "Waldof Histrora" and should be waited on hand and foot and forget the other 6 or 7 pt.s but life goes on as a nurse. You have to love what you do and I do.

Curently, I am a VN student and when we were doing our clinical I was shocked to find out that there are some LVN's &other medical staffs who shoved us away and we hear somebody saying, "not another group of students?" and they even ignore us when we asked questions or offer help. And it makes me wonder, how they make it this far without others teaching them and helping them to learn? We'rent they students before? Were they treated this way too when they were learning? Of course to proved them wrong, we try to be nice and polite and still persist to offer help until someone does care to guide and help us understand how things works around the facility. Of course our Instructor was disappointed because we were informed that everybody was nice and friendly. How, ironic because we are supposed to be nurses who adopts with any change and willingness to help and teach. We are tought to care and understand not create superiority and discrimination. So, if this is how you are w/ fellow nurses, then how do you treat your patients? If you treat people with respect and dignity then you will be treated the same by those who see the kind of vibes you pass along. Don't be a Nurse just for money, be One because you love doing it and you care for others. Well, now this facilty has been very nice to us and they were eager to ask us help to assist them. those who ignored us before are embarassed to asked help, yet we still approach them to let them know we hold no grudges against them. We need to share the knowledge we learn and teach students the proper way to do procedures, so they will learn not to make mistakes and make the system in health care work better and make the environment a comfortable and safer place for the patients with dignity and respect which is not only good for the hospital but on how other people treat Nurses as well.

People mostly treated you with respect and dignity.Based on my experienced when i was working in the kingdom they usually give me special treatment especially when i do home visit.I remembered one of my patient there for daily dressing of decubitus ulcer he always gave me tip i refused accepting it because i was also afraid but he always insisted me to accept it.Being professional and as a nurse we usually gain fair treatment depending on how you wanted people to treat you.If you treated them w/ arrogance  then don't expect them to treat you in a nice way also.We are just human being all of us have differences.
